Our first visit to Candlewyck Barn was provided as a two night birthday treat to explore the Furness Peninsula in some comfort and style, which Candlewyck provided in abundance ! It's hard to add to the many favourable comments already provided by previous travellers except to say they are all true. We stayed in the main house in a beautifully appointed comfortable bedroom adjacent to the large bathroom of which we had exclusive use with it's spacious shower, free standing bath and use of it's wonderful toiletries. Being literally the last property on a quiet lane leading north from Ulverston the house felt very rural with beautiful views and yet conveniently close to all the usual amenities of a small market town. It was lovely to stroll up the lane in the morning listening to the birdsong before returning to the large airy kitchen dining room and having a friendly chat with Sam (the owner) or Rachel as they freshly cooked a fantastic breakfast to our individual requirements. We were given a door key and on return from our excursions it really felt as though we were letting ourselves into our own home as we had been made to feel so welcome. Tea & coffee facilities in the room were plentiful and excellent. As a bonus Sam offered to book meals at the local Farmers Arms which was unfortunately fully booked, but she did manage to get us places at The Rose & Crown and The Mill in Ulverston at both of which we enjoyed tasty evening meals.Come rain or shine there is plenty to see around Ulverston. We enjoyed the walk to the Barrow Monument on nearby Hoad Hill, visits to Furness Abbey, Dalton Castle and the Budhist Temple at Conisburgh Priory and when it rained The Docks Museum at Barrow was excellent and free ! We look forward to returning to Candlewyck and possibly staying in The Barn Studio as it too sounds fabulous.

Room Tip: We would normally have requested the room in the Barn Studio as it seemed to provide more privacy, but having exclusive use of the bathroom and the spaciousness and peacefulness of the main house made for a very homely stay.

We have just spent a perfect anniversary weekend at Candlewyck on the recommendation of my sister. We stayed in the Barn Studio and it was fabulous - a real oasis of calm. It is perfectly situated in a location that is rural and yet only a 10 minute walk into Ulverston. We spent a lovely few hours at the Buddhist temple nearby, from where we were able to do a walk along the beach. They do lovely baguettes at the weekend! We were really impressed and hope to be able to return soon and enjoy Sam's hospitality again.

Our second visit to Candlewyck. With our two children (15 and 10), we had another fabulous time. Sam Duncan knows how to look after her guests. Our rooms were spotless, the breakfast (organic) delicious and the house itself is delightful. A great base for travelling around and Ulverston has some great restaurants within walking distance. I am a travel snob so finding somewhere like Candlewyck was a massive stroke of luck. Our 10 year old loved visiting the pigs and horses. Totally recommend staying here.

Room Tip: There are rooms in the main house and a self contained barn. We stayed in the house but the barn is also beautiful.

Since our first wonderful stay at this exceptional B and B 18 months ago, we have escaped kids and work stresses and returned on several occasions, incuding this weekend. The barn is heavenly: decor, fittings and bedding would not be out of place in a five star hotel, and the breakfast could not be bettered. Sam is a fantastic host. We've already booked our next stay. Can't wait!

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Candlewyck. Sam made us feel very welcome. Candlewyck has great character and is beautifully furnished. Rooms were lovely and beds were very comfortable. Very peaceful at night. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. First class ingredients. We all agreed breakfast was the best we have had anywhere. Sam pays attention to every little detail and it shows. Would not hesitate to recommend.
