Booked in for two nights stay as my brother in law was taking part in the Wasdale fell race. Had a warm welcome from Andrew and shown our rooms, my BIL in a single room and my husband and I in twin room. Burnthwaite is a working farm and located in an awesome spot with breathtaking views. The building is full of character dating back to the 16th century with small quirks like walls not straight or the floors for that matter, all adds to the experience. I was looked after as to my vegan diet with soya milk being supplied and breakfast was hearty, which was needed with the fell race for BIL and for myself and husband walking Great Gable to meet BIL with refreshments. Andrew is a great character, hardworking and multi tasking, one minute he is out on the quad bike, then haymaking and then next he is making the breakfast. And I cannot miss mentioning Billy their Patterdale terrier, what a dog, he walks down to the pub the Wasdale Head Inn on his own which is about half a mile at lunchtime and evenings hoping for scraps. He was there when we were and had our leftovers. We were in the guest lounge on our last evening, when we heard a scrunching of gravel on the lane and who comes walking down but Billy on his way back from the pub. This is an excellent B&B and although BIL said he would not take part in the fell race next year (he finished 20 mins faster than last year) he is already talking about doing it again, so we will be back.
