Description: The world famous Ritson's Bar and Residents' Bar provide a warm welcome for thirsty, hungry and walk-weary guests, 365 days of the year! Ritson's Bar is named after the first landlord, Will Ritson - huntsman, wrestler, farmer, fellsman, guide, raconteur, and the first "World's Biggest Liar". Today the bar is where everyone congregates after a day on the fells, to talk and enjoy the good wholesome bar meals and real ales. In winter most keep warm beside the log burning stove, the garden and beckside tables gaining in popularity as the summer approaches. The Dining Room provides for the heartiest appetite but in a style that has won many awards, and with particular acclamation for breakfast. Service is relaxed and dress codes are informal. High standards of cuisine are maintained. We specialise in Herdwick lamb & mutton when available.

“Wasdale Head Inn”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

Crowded out with small children. Needed a good sweep and clean down of tables. Parking was an issue.

“bravo whisky”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

The Wasdale Head Inn is all a climber and fellwalker could want, a warm and dry sanctuary after a hard days walk or climb. Stone floors and a roaring fire, if needed, to dry your kit out, if actually staying at the Inn it is not cheap, the beers on offer were good, food ok, my only gripe with this establishment is the outside toilet, which is also used by the people on the small campsite opposite the pub, one word--disgusting.

Many thanks for the review.

You mention the outside toilets - these have signs on the doors clearly indicating that they are only for use by campers, and have a combination lock which only they should use. It seems that on the day you were there someone left these open, and unfortunately members of the public used them without our knowledge. If we had known they were open they would have been closed and cleaned immediately, they are normally kept to the same high standards as the internal toilets, for which we regularly receive compliments and very positive reviews.

“Not what it used to be!”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

When you walk in you can imagine that many a weary walker has stopped here to refresh themselves over the years after long days out, sharing stories of their walking adventures. However you soon realise that the inn is trying to cater for a new market. Where once you would have had a landlord/lady who would engage you in a chat about your day,you now have young people serving behind the bar who appear to have little interest in anything other that chatting amongst themselves. As with many pubs in the Lakes the food menus have moved away from providing hearty warming good quality food at reasonable prices to menus offering what was once basic foods but dressing it up as something it not so they can attach an inflated price tag.
On a positive note there was a good range of real ales, all reasonably priced.
The female toilets were also nice and clean with fresh flowers quiet a surprise really!

“Really nice atmosphere”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

After an afternoon paddle-boarding on Wast Water, we headed here to the pub at the end of the lake - a dead-end, which looked as if it might be quite quiet from the outside. When we walked in we couldn't believe how busy it was which gave it a lovely atmosphere. Efficient service, Good beer and nice pub food. A good end to our day at the lake.
