I've lived in the UK for more than two years and have driven all over this fair land. The prettiest and most grand drive I've taken is the road from Gosforth to Wastwater Lake. Unlike eastern Cumbria, this is the Lake District at it's most wild with postcard and jogsaw puzzle views around just about every bend in the road. Note that this drive is not for the faint of heart. The road is little more than one vehicle wide in many places and should not be attempted at night or in much of winter when there is ice and snow on the road. Nonetheless, your efforts will be rewarded as you pass from one micro-climate to the next.

its extremely cold, but the water is clear - the western side has a road along it making it easy to park up a go for a swim. Nice picnic area as well. Not very many tourists as it is remote and the road is a dead end.

Took a little walk through the beautiful woodland and eventually came to the waters edge and an opening to view the hills all around us. It was goregous and Dan couldn't resist getting his toes in the water!
