Wastwater Lake is stunning. We went on a 7 mile round walk most of which was near the lake and saw some stunning scenery. Amazingly for the Lake District, the walk was mainly on the flat! This is a lovely area and not as busy as some parts of the Lakes.

A beautiful stretch of water near Scafell Pike. You need to visit several times at different times of the day to see the varying moods and light effects on the water and the mountains that are the back drop. Stunning!

I love Wastwater - it is remote and unspoiled and is the deepest lake in england. At its head is the smallest church in England and nearby is Scarfell Pike the hightes mountain in England

This really is a must do if you visit the Lake district early evening before sunset is a time for reflection, its an awe inspiring place no wonder it is painted and photographed so much.

be careful if it has rained as the shore can be boggy, there are plenty of spaces to pull in and get out of the car and wander, sit on a rock and soak up the view , the peace only disturbed by a bleating sheep .

personally young children may find the lake boring and the water is very deep
but for a moment of reflection and peace this is the place to go
