“Must See!!”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

This place isn't the most well known, but the place is totally stunning. We saw it with the clouds low across the peaks but when the sun shone through as well it made it even more stunning

“Well worth a detour too reach.”
Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

Wastwater is perhaps the most visually arresting of the lakes. For fell walkers its charms are revealed when you reach the summit of Great Gable, to see the lake via car takes significantly more effort as you need to swing out of the lake district to the west coast of Cumbria then head back in but it's definitely worth the drive. Nothing can prepare you for the wildness of the area. The dark screes of the fells plunge nearly vertically into the lake giving the area a perpetual eerie feeling. The access roads around the area are worth mentioning,as a driver you need to be vigilant as the roads are very windy and narrow with limited passing places, and for some reason people like to hurtle along with scant disregard for other traffic whether thats cars, pedestrians or cyclists. If you do visit the lake it's worth mentioning that if you carry on you will eventually reach wasdale head with its camping areas and Wasdale Head Inn, probably one of the most remote pubs in the lake district but we'll worth visiting.

“Stunning”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

This was one of the highlights of our trip. A beautiful lake surrounded by a mountainous terrain. We spent a few hours walking by the shore and really enjoyed ourselves. Peaceful and quiet.

“stunning!”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

What can I add after Wastwater was voted the place in the country! Well even on a crap day even by Lakeland standards this location is still stunning and I've had the pleasure of seeing it in all of it's moods.
The place has a haunting magic about it that leaves the watcher feeling that this place has not changed in real terms since the last ice age.
Yes it has a brilliant pub, climbing shop and farms B&B at the head of the valley, butt the valley has retained it true wildness in spite of man.
Come and see a place created out of the last ice age that still an and will challenge anyone.
