Enjoyed our visit. Much larger than it would appear from the entrance. Well worth a visit even when the weather is good.

Visited the Rum story during a very wet week in the Lakes. Centrally located near public car parks' it was easy to find and admission was very reasonable too. Lots of interesting displays and historical information with plenty to entertain all ages. Toy of rum at the end of the yours was most welcome. The staff were superb and couldn't be more helpful!! Well worth a visit!!

Visited The Rum Story on a rainy day when outdoor activities weren't an option.
We were met by a very friendly member of staff who took our wet coats so we didn't have to carry them around the museum, which I thought was very good service.
The museum itself is on several levels and has been brought to life with clever props and life size set-ups with people and sounds. I found parts of it (eg the slave ship) quite eery, as it was so realistic!
The interpretation boards that explain the story of rum and its connection to Whitehaven are well written and very informative. I found out all sorts of things that I had never even thought of! I lost all track of time and someone had to come and tell us that the museum was closing. Without realising it we had spent more than two hours in there!
Our coats had been helpfully moved to the courtyard for us and they unlocked the shop again to give us our tots of rum, which were welcome given the horrid weather.
I would recommend this museum to anyone, it is also very accessible for disabled people, with lifts between levels.
Didn't have a chance to try the cafe.

Enjoyed this place very much. Quite a lot to see, well thought out. Staff very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. You get a sample of rum at the end and because we went on-line to book our tickets, the tour came with a free coffee or tea in the cafe afterwards, an added bonus was the lady in the shop gave us another rum to put in our coffee!! How kind. She also gave us info on the harbour, how to get there etc., etc. Couldn't ask for more. Would recommend this place.

Having enjoyed the harbour & the mining historical artefacts we called into The Rum Story on impulse & were really impressed with the layout & authenticity. The cafe food was also great & all the staff were friendly & helpful. The wacky clock will entertain & intrigue the kids for a good while too!
