friendly service and very helpful great if you want to be in the centre of the town of whitehaven but not to noisy even on a busy friday night i would stay here again and the breakfast was just what i expected overall i dont see why others are complaining about this place for the price and what you need of the room i couldnt ask for more its never going to be a 5 star place so dont expect it and if you do then go stay someway else as this place had been running for years and i think the owner of the place does it right for the price

Room Tip: warm welcoming and very roomy old victorian house packed with original features lovely breakfast and...

Me and a friend stayed here for two nights and found the staff very friendly. The breakfast was brill and we enjoyed it, even got seconds.
The cost was £25 per night B&B in a shared room. Can't fault it for the price.

Very central and convienent for the start of the C2C. Lovely lady running it, good shared bathrooms. £35 / b&b. Breakfast ok.

(Smell of fried food permeating the building, dirty & run down - but what do you expect for £35. You pasy your money and you takes your choice!)

Room Tip: I don't believe there is a good room.

I stayed there on the eve of doing a "Coast to Coast" cycle ride. The room I had booked was a single which turned out to be a family room, 1 double and 2 singles. The tv worked after I changed the batteries but unfortunatly wouldnt work in the morning which was an issue as to the weather forcast. The sink was loose and coming away from the wall plus the lampshade had a large hole in it. Shared bathroom was clean and quite modern in total contrast to the bedroom. Outdated and in need of some money spending on it is how I would review the room. On the plus side central location, storage in a yard for bicyles and breakfast was ok. The place looked quite busy with contractors but £35 pp for the night was a fiver too much for me.

We stayed here last minute as we weren't able to stay in the accommodation that we initially arranged. The location is good, central, easy to find. Even though the building itself is quite old, the (shared) bathrooms were nice, modern and clean. The room itself was clean, well decorated and comfortable. The general decor of the guest house is traditional and perhaps a little dated, but is clean and the style suits the style of building. By far the best thing about our stay was the service from the lady running it, she created a very relaxed atmosphere, she was friendly, helpful and provided great service. The major downside of this place and most b&b/ guest houses in Whitehaven is the parking (which seems to be an issue for Whitehaven as a town), there is a multi story nearby, I imagine it could be fairly expensive depending of how long you stay. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend to anyone. It may not be a luxury retreat, but value for money was great!

Room Tip: We had a family room (1 double and 2 single beds). I don't know what other rooms are available...

We stayed at Read Guest House for one night at the start of our coast to coast cycle. The room rate was great - £30pp, however the condition of the guest house was very disappointing.

The property is an old georgian building on a narrow street with no parking either on- or off-street. The main parking option is a multi-storey on the other side of the main road - we parked overnight in a restricted area without getting a ticket.

on arriving at the guest house we had to ring the owner to gain access - she owns a shop locally and we had to wait for her to come round. we had booked 3 rooms; a single, double and triple. the double bedroom turned out to be a twin. the TV in one room only worked if buttons on the remote control were continuously being pressed. the vanity sink in one room looked as if it had been melted in places. as the guest house is located adjacent to the main shopping/bar and restaurant area of whitehaven, there was a lot of noise during the night and in the early morning. the room decor was very outdated, and looking out the windows, the wooden window frames were full of rot and damp, although this did not appear to have had an effect upon the interior walls.

a choice of continental or full english breakfast was available, however choices within these categories were limited.

on the positive side, the owner was pleasant and helpful in offering advice about our trip. secure cycle parking is available overnight and we were made to feel welcome in the guest house.
