Something for adults and kids and informative. Good views of the marina from the top and good telescopes for views to Scotland. Enjoyed learning about sharks.

We were in Whitehaven and it was raining, saw the Beacon and went in to get out of the rain. The lady on the desk explained what it was about so we decided to go in. Basically it is the story of Copeland - its pre-history before the Romans and the Vikings, its shipping trade and the history of the mines. There are lots of interesting displays and photographs of Whitehaven in both its heyday and its decline and its re-imergence as it is today. If you take children there are lots of things for them to get involved in on all floors. The top floor explains a lot about the weather and has the story of John Paul Jones who attacked Whitehaven in 1776, the view from here is quite spectacular, as by then the rain had stopped. So for somewhere that had been a shelter from the rain, we came out knowing a lot more about the area than we had when we went in. Also worth a mention is the Ice Age display, quite a small exhibition of Woolly Mammoths, Sabre-Toothed Tigers etc, worth a visit, but not brilliant.
