Decided to visit the Lake District coast and have to say it's as beautiful as the central Lake District! Took the kids to The Beacon Museum to see the new Sellafield Story exhibition, which tells the history of the development of the site over the past 60 years. Very interesting and informative. Great value to, £10.00 for a family ticket: 2 adults and up to 3 kids. The cafe has great views over the historic harbour.

Great family day out!

From the viewing room at the top down through the tower the story of Whitehaven is brought vividly to life. Agreat experience for all ages. In addition, the regular exhibitions are always interesting.

You can get some decent food here for a good price. The service here is very good and the cafe has a warm communal atmosphere, with some lovely views of the harbour.

We found the chicken burger to be quite balnd as the breast was cooked on its own before adding the piri-piri sauce. It may be better to marinade the chicken first for more flavour, but this is a personal taste issue.

This is a great little location for a couple of hours (or longer). The history element is well-presented and engaging, the activities are fun and the views are just amazing. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable too.
You may want to park in the multi-storey and walk to the Beacon, though, as their nearby car park can get full quite quickly.
Very good family-friendly destination, good to combine with a meal out.
