“A lovely stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2013

We stayed one night in Whitehaven but our time at the Glenfield was great. The room was clean and tidy, with a good bed and all the usual amenities (hairdryer, television, kettle, shampoo). Breakfast the following morning was really good and Margaret made us feel very welcome.

My husband and I arrived in Whitehaven without having booked accommodation so after trying several guest houses we arrived at Glenfield house, we were warmly greeted by Andrew and shown the last room that was available which I liked instantly, it was comfortable, warm, spacious and with the most luxurious towels.
Andrew gave us a printout of places to eat in the town that evening which was really helpful and also took the time to point out places of interest on a map in the dining room on the morning we were leaving. Our breakfast was cooked to order with a great choice and was delicious.
Overall we had a really lovely stay in Glenfield house huge thank you to Andrew and Margaret for making our stay so enjoyable.

Thanks to Andrew and Margaret for making my stay so warm and welcoming. Added bonus was the great evening meals on offer. Great for a lone female business traveller. Hope to see you again sometime -c-to-c maybe?!!

Stayed here for one night in April as I had an early morning meeting in Workington

Nice clean functional room
Helpful and welcoming owners
All Parking is on - street, but close by.
Good quality breakfast.
£50 for a single room, which is a little on the high side for what I pay across Cumbria
hence why I only gave it 3 stars
Little to nothing going on in Whitehaven, may be nice in
the Summer but it was deathly quiet when I was there

I would try to avoid staying in Whitehaven again, but if
I did I would happily stay here again

When we first arrived I felt it was different to what I expected but once inside it was much better. The friendly welcome from Margaret was almost family like then Andrew came into the lounge and he was just as friendly. He showed us around our room (called Corkickle) and it was nicely furnished with great finishing touches such as the mood lighting around the cornice. The en-suite bathroom was lovely and also finished and maintained to a high standard. Food wise, we only had the breakfast which was part of the price and it was a proper full English with a decent portion too.
They had also put a guide together of things to do during your stay and Andrew even researched a future trip for us to the off-roading experience. He also printed out a scenic route for us to take on our return home (it was certainly off the beaten track but had loads of photo opportunities).
We highly recommend the Glenfield and we plan to go again later in the year.

Absolutely lovely place and charming hosts ! Stayed here for 2 nights only but have already decided to come here again and have also recommended the place to our business travel organisers.
Everything was just right, old house nicely decorated, large room with nice beds with duvets of right thickness, full tea kit, en suite power shower, TV that not only works but its image is crisp and clear, room instructions and guides intelligently put together that are actually helpful..
Nice day room and "honesty" bar...full English breakfast should you want it...very well located for everything, shopping, visiting, etc..Although on main road rooms are quiet. Everywhere little things that show attention to detail..
The place has its own B&B charm , if you are ready to enjoy it don't hesitate to book yourself in !
