“Comfy very welcoming - brilliant steak”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2012

Stayed at the Wheyrigg for one night, booked through the sun offer, yeah the rooms are a bit dated, but your in the countryside what you expect, the red carpet. We paid £10.00 in the sun offer, and even with the normal price of £45pp i would still of paid that. i loved this place so cosyy and very welcoming, had a steak and it was the best steak i have eaten beats the one i had in london.. tried to book to come back for a special occassion but there fully booked, so il defo be coming back soon :) -

A very friendly family run hotel. I had opted for a single room although not large it was comfortable. The food was good and could not be faulted.

Stayed at Wheyrigg Hall Hotel for one night as a stop on our way to a wedding in Gretna. The room was nice with a decent bed and all the facilities you would expect and the breakfast was great. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Nothing much within walking distance at all but good links to get to plenty of places by car within a 10-15 minute drive.

Thanks!

On the upside;
A friendly welcome from the staff.
Whilst the rooms are fairly functional and basic, they are clean (if a little tired in some cases).
The showers generally work well with basic shampoo and gel sachets provided.
The restaurant is again fairly functional, tending towards quantity over quality. Most things come with chips. The salads are good.
The bar is generally fairly welcoming, but can be a little daunting if all the locals are in watching horse racing (as previous reviewers have mentioned).
Haggle when you book and you should be able to get a decent price.

On the down side;
Do not come here if you're a lover of real ale as there ain't any.
Also, if you like a stroll in the evening (as I do), then this is not the place to be unless you happen to like walking along a busy road without footpaths (as I don't). It's a fair way from anywhere else so you're stuck with the hotel restaurant and bar unless you're prepared to drive out.

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs are generally nicer than those on the ground floor. Rooms on the first floor can som...

Just returned from 4 night break at Wheyrigg, It was great. The rooms are large and very clean with everything you need. The breakfast is superb and nice and laid back. The food available throughout the day and evening is excellent quality and good value for money. The bar area is used a lot by locals who are all friendly and welcoming.
The greatest asset of this hotel is the staff, they could not do enough for you, every single one of them from bottom to top had excellent customer service skills .
Well done to everyone involved . Will return in the future and recommend to friends and family.
