“Accommodation too”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

We stayed at the Highland Laddie at the start of our trip from Carlisle to Carlisle via Workington on the C2C and back via Hadrian's Cycleway. The H L provided lovely clean accommodation, excellent food as stated in other reviews. I have no qualms in recommending the Highland Laddie as a stop off. Best bit is that the locals use it too, they always know best and the restaurant was full of locals celebrating Birthdays and family events. We were very kindly proffered Mars Bars for our journey... we kept them especially for one of the famous climbs Hartside on the Pennines. Thank you for having us.

“Delicious local fish”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

We ate at the Highland Laddie as it was recommended by our hosts at Shoregate House where we were staying. You can't beat local knowledge, we had local trout and local salmon simply cooked they needed nothing more, delicious.

“Fabulous fresh fish”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

Ate here the first evening prior to the start of our walk on Hadrians wall. It was recommended to us by the owner of our B&B up the road. We popped in for a drink on the lunchtime to check it out before booking for the evening. We only had pots of tea but made our booking and when we got up to leave and pay for the tea the owner said pay when you come back later. We returned for our evening meal and we're not disappointed. Mark the owner fishes everyday and the catch of the day ends up on the menu that evening. Some of the party had salmon and some trout, very fresh and very tasty. The homemade chips were amazing and very plentiful. You will not be disappointed with this place, it is also very reasonably priced.

“gets better with age”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

I reviewed this small cumbrian village pub/restaurant a few months ago. My wife and I returned recently and the great news is that the wild salmon, sea bass and wild trout are back on the menu.
Probably the best tasting salmon ever with home made coleslaw and a beautiful fresh salad. The optional chips are the best I,ve come across.
