We enjoyed a lovely stay at the Washington Central. We got a lovely welcome from the gentleman on reception when we arrived, and every other member of staff from that point on during our stay was friendly and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean (decor perhaps a little dated in some places) and the bed was comfortable.

The bar area was warm and welcoming. Whilst the service of the food was excellent, the food itself was ok - a little overpriced for what it turned out to be.

Overall a very nice stay and I would stay again if we were in the area.

A good stay is often initiated by a warm and friendly welcome, as first impressions do count for a lot. So we all really appreciated your kind comments on the levels of service and friendliness of the staff. The fact you also commented on the high levels of cleanliness makes the housekeepers efforts all the more worthwhile. Thank you very much for your kind review.

Stayed for quite a while here on business. Staff are fantasic and friendly. Rooms have all the amenities you could require. Can be a little noisy on a Thursday if you are on the front of the hotel, but I tended not to notice after a while.
Food is excellent. Nice selection and not too overpriced for a hotel.
Definately be back there.

We have previously stayed at The Washington Central hotel and had a genuinely wonderful stay. So when we recently saw an offer to stay in the new 'Deluxe rooms' which included dinner, we enquired and booked two double rooms.
The new Deluxe rooms are simply wonderful, loads of room, reclining chairs and sofas, huge and oh so comfortable double beds, big screen TV, double power showers as well as all the little extras you get in the standard rooms. The decor is very modern with the window wall in reclaimed brickwork, a very interesting feature. Our friends room even had a TV built into the wall in the bathroom (dont know why we didnt have one in ours).
The hotel has recently refurbished its restaurant and relaunched it as the Central Bistro, we had a meal on the Saturday which again was of excellent quality and service.
As with our previous stay at this hotel the staff are the real highlight, from check-in to departure nothing was ever to much trouble. It felt so special that Anne at breakfast remembered us, and was again so chatty and friendly. In fact all the staff are just so friendly and welcoming. We did spend a bit more time in the leisure area on this visit and the pool is great, even enjoyed a glass (plastic) or two of wine while relaxing by the pool on the loungers.
All four of us had a great time and will be returning again . Highly recommended .

Room Tip: The new Deluxe rooms on the first floor are excellently appointed and huge. Room 80 has the bathroom...

So pleased that you have taken time to write and comment very positively. Especially as you are a returning guest, who can appreciate the new décor in the Bistro and the quality of the new Deluxe bedrooms. Great that you also enjoyed the pool and your dining experience.

Just returned from a superb 2 day stay at the Washington Hotel in Workington.
From the initial check in to our check out departure the service was impeccable, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was modern, spotlessly clean and reflected the high standard throughout the hotel. We had dinner in the hotel's refurbished and modernised Bistro dining room and enjoyed a well presented and superbly cooked meal. Breakfast is just as good with multiple choices.
We cannot praise the attitude and service of the staff enough, it was very professional.
Overall a very enjoyable stay, we will return!

Stayed here for work reasons. It was recommended but after reading some of the reviews I was a bit unsure of what to expect.Everthing was excellent. Room was lovely with a welcoming glass of port awaiting which I thought was a very nice touch.
Interior of the hotel very nice, comfortable seating area in the bar/lounge and a lovely restaurant. The menu was extensive and the food excellent. My colleague suffers from celiac disease. Having advised them of this prior to arrival we arrived to find they had specially baked rolls for her.Very nice touch.

Worst stay EVER………….

The Washington Hotel also has an adjacent hotel (The Sleepwell) and I decided to book a room there as I had a social event to attend in Workington.

I can only say it was the WORST stay EVER………..
The Sleepwell has no reception and is not ‘manned’ or ‘checked’ on during the night. When I stayed, there was a major disturbance inside the hotel but there was no staff member to intervene.

It was terrifying!!

As I only managed about 1 hour sleep, I complained the morning after at the Washington Hotel where I was faced with indifference – told it would be investigated.
On chasing an answer, apology or at least some interest in my complaint.

I was told ‘I don’t know what you want me to say’

Customer service???????????????????????????

I would hate to think anyone else would be subjected to this…………

Firstly may I apologise form my late response on your comments, and for the fact that you had a very disturbed nights sleep on your recent visit to Workington. During the past few weeks I have been conducting an investigation into your observations. In order to complete this in a thorough manner, I needed to speak to all residential guests of the Sleepwell Inn on 11/04/14 . Recently a number of the same guests have again been staying at the Sleepwell Inn. So during their most recent stay I had the opportunity to speak to these guests personally. All the guests I spoke to, although commenting on noise heard from some revellers in a nearby dwelling, none of them heard any disturbance from inside the Sleepwell Inn. Also our night manager who periodically inspected inside the Sleepwell Inn throughout the early hours did not come accross any disturbances inside the premesis.
He did however report to me that there was noise disturbance from the property immediately behind the Sleepwell Inn, which he confirms could be heard inside the Sleepwell. To which he acted upon and spoke to the revellers, to consider other guests trying to sleep nearby.
We thank you for taking the time make your comments, which we do take very seriously. It is regrettable that on this occasion you did not have a pleasent stay with us, for which again I apologise. However should you have occasion to stay in Workington in the foreseeable future, please contact myself personally or the hotel Manager Mr Keith Wild. Then we can hopefully ensure that you have a very enjoyable stay on our behalf. Kindest Regards, Andrew Carruthers, senior duty manager.
