This hotel is in the middle nowhere but only less than 10 miles from Cockermouth and half hour from the attractions in the Lake District. So if you have a car you would be a fool not to stay at this beautiful hotel. The hotel has been decorated to a high degree, no expense has been spared. There is couple open fires in the reception and bar, it would have made the hotel even more special if they had been lit!!. The owner is a very nice gentleman and he has a good team around him, all very pleasant. The rooms are lovely and clean the bathroom spotless. You have bottled water with a good quality of coffee tea and biscuits. There is a plate off mints there for you everyday - we were a bit amused that one mint was eaten and the wrapper left each day of our stay! We thought it was funny. The offer includes discounts if you eat in the hotel 10 or 20% depending on which menu you choose. There is a big chose of food on offer so you are bound to find something you like, the quality of food is really high. It's all reasonably priced plus you get discount. The bar prices aren't excessive. We went for a birthday treat and was very kindly upgraded to room 10 which was very quiet to the front of the hotel. The hotel does have parties such as weddings and christening each weekend but if you get the rooms away from them you should hVe no problems the manager is aware of this and he ensures that this is never an issue. Both sections are kept separate and the party has a separate entrance.

The owner takes a lot of pride in his hotel and this is shown by the standards he sets. Thank you for a lovely weekend. So come one everyone let's support independent hotel businesses like Hunday Hotel.!!!

We have just stayed at this wonderful little family run hotel hotel in the lakes. We were made most welcome by all the hotel staff, it is well decorated and spotless with a lovely bar area and restaurant. We stayed in room 14 the room was very comfortable and very clean with everything you could want. The breakfast was very filling and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and have already made plans to return, a really hidden little gem.

I don't normally do reviews, but just wanted to share.
I stayed here at the weekend and so enjoyed my stay, staff were courteous and couldn't do enough. The choice in the restaurant was excellent and cooked exactly to my liking.
The bar was well stocked with some wonderful old brandies, just to help one sleep!
Room was clean cosy and well stocked, biscuits being far too nice.
The location is superb for the lakes and was in Loweswater valley in minutes with my camera and video for some stunning scenery.
All in all a great hotel with character and service, can't wait to go back

Booked a buffet for 40 people. When the bill arrived the hotel had added the cost of an extra 5 covers. Nothing mentioned on the day about the so called extra numbers there and no agreement sought for the extra charge particularly as no extra food was offered or provided .We were invited to 'book an appointment' to discuss but involving an 80 mile round trip we felt a phone call would suffice. The management refused to discuss by phone. Their overall attitude to the issue came across as very arrogant

Spent 4 nights staying here while working at a clients site. On the whole the hotel is a nice place to stay and the staff are on the whole friendly and helpful. I stayed full-board, B,B & EM, and had the choice of the dinner menu or the supper menu for the "EM." I found both menus to be somewhat staid and unimaginative given the wealth of good ingredients available within a few miles. I chose from the supper menu and the food was well prepared and arrived promptly. The waiting staff were pleasant and business like and happy to exchange a few words of conversation. The dining area is lit with LED spot-lights and low energy bulbs and has an unpleasant colour cast making things slightly green to my eyes. My bedroom was in the old part of the building and had been recently decorated. You could tell from the smell of low-odor paint and masking tape stuck to the inside of the door handle. The room was clean but not immaculate, with leaves and fluff balls around the edge of the beds and hair in the shower. The glasses in the bathroom benefited from a good rinse out. The bottom sheet on the bed just covered the top of the bed, leaving the headboard end uncovered. But the bed was very comfortable, and the room warm and quiet, despite there being a gale blowing. Breakfast was good, with a fine choice of local produce all tasty and well cooked. Bar staff are friendly and helpful.
Would I stay again. But not if I was paying myself. It was more akin to a slightly above average B&B than a top line hotel. Mind you, considering this is Workington... ...
