“Lovely hotel and great breakfast”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

This is a lovely Hotel we went through Travel zoo and thought the service and room were very good the breakfast was cooked to order so was hot, a bonus for us. The room was nice and cosy although we didn't have a bin and thought that should be addressed. We ate every evening at the hotel and enjoyed our food and had good service . Not much to do in the local area as far as sightseeing goes but very pleasant gardens, and walking outside the Hotel grounds.

We booked this hotel on a Travelzoo voucher, like so many others recently. We were not disappointed. It is set at the end of a quiet lane, in nice grounds with a wide view of the Solway Firth. The public rooms are well decorated and very comfortable. Our room was small but clean and well-appointed with a lovely en-suite with an enormous shower. There are huge, fluffy, soft white towels, toiletries, a trouser press with iron and ironing board, stereo system and flat screen tv. The bed was really comfortable. All staff were helpful, polite and had a nice friendly manner with guests. We ate in the restaurant for both evenings we were there......if you have a three course meal with wine, you get 20% off via the voucher. We did this on the first night and had a fabulous meal with 'amuse bouche' of fresh squid thrown in. The food was fresh, beautifully cooked and served. Breakfast was amazing too. A great selection of cooked breakfasts with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on brioche being just one of them. Spotlessly clean napiery and fresh flowers on every table. The only problem was the noise from the disco at the party in the Function room drowned out the music in the dining room on the first night (it did finish early though, to be fair), but it was beautifully quiet on the second. We were really thrilled with our choice and would love to return.

Room Tip: Room 14 has no view so the bottom pane of glass is opaque!

We have just had 3 nights in this wonderful hotel. Couldn't fault anything - beautifully decorated, friendly and efficient staff, lovely bedrooms and bathrooms, lovely gardens beautifully landscaped - so pretty, and great views across the landscape. The meals were wonderful - both breakfast and the a la carte meals we had every night. The decor everywhere is gorgeous and it was a sheer pleasure to be anywhere in this hotel. Our bedroom was very comfortable - tea and coffee making facility, plenty of storage, wi-fi, piles of fluffy towels, soft pillows and duvet, large powerful shower - bliss. I could go on and on about how wonderful this hotel is..............but go and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
We had never been to the Lake District and were unsure whether we had picked the right area but everything was very accessible and we saw everything on our list which we thoroughly enjoyed. I only wished we lived nearer so we could go back there without a 6 hour journey!

We chose this property through a Travel Zoo special offer and it was one of the best properties discovered. Every detail from the chair at the desk, the fluffy towels, the immaculate decor is a credit to the owners. The view at sunset was enjoyed from a eell tended garden with plenty of seating. Thoroughly deserves its Excellence Award.

We recently stayed at the hunday manor hotel for two nights and can thoroughly recommend this hotel for accommodation, service, and excellent food. Breakfast was excellent and we enjoyed a first class three course meal in the evening in beautiful surroundings. Would not hesitate to return.

My wife and I have just returned from a two night stay and found the stay to be very enjoyable with the hotel offering exceptional and friendly service, and very good dinning with much choice.

The hotel is well located for the North Western lakes National Park with views across Solway Firth.

Our room had been recently refurbished and offered very comfortable living.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the front with views across Solway Firth

Having been invited to a private function at Hunday Manor for 11th July 2014, my wife and I were lucky to secure the last room available when we booked in May.

Hotel Location
In an elevated setting just off the A595 with both coastal and inland vistas

Staff
From arrival to departure all Staff went out of their way to help. There are no lifts so don’t be shy just ask the Staff to carry your bags to your room; but they will probably offer to do this first!
The Staff had very good table etiquette and all were immaculately dressed.

Dinner
We had a three course meal followed by coffee-six empty plates! The standout dishes were the garlic mushrooms in a sauce to die for. The beef was exquisite although I would recommend gravy boats on the table?
The ginger pudding cake had a wicked taste and was simply outstanding; it was served with sweet caramel and vanilla ice cream. In our travels to the Caribbean we had a very similar dish served with coconut ice cream-heaven in a dish!

Breakfast
The full Cumbrian breakfast is not to be missed and consists mainly of local ingredients; the bacon was thick and succulent and far removed from the paper thin stuff served in major hotel chains. One downside-My wife observed a fellow diner remove about 10 jars of jams from two tables; embarrassing, especially as we ran into this person again later that morning at Cockermouth!

Drinks
The Pils lager at £4.50 a pint was just what was needed on a warm summers evening. For breakfast, tea and coffee were fine.

Room
Had we been able to book earlier we would have had more choice but our twin room (6) was more than adequate. The room was spotless clean with no dust on surfaces or picture frames. Good quality oat biscuits went down well with the tea on offer.
The shower was massive and the bathroom was abundant with soap, hand lotion, shower gel, and shampoo. Other extras were cotton wool, cotton bods and a shoe shine. The bath towels were luxurious and massive with deep pile. The toilet paper was very good quality and not like some of the sandpaper supplied in other establishments.

Grounds
Perfect for everything up to a wedding. These grounds are extensive but some of the weeds need a little attention.

Tourist Area
The majority of tourism in the North part of the Lake District clearly centres on Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick. These spots can be choked with traffic and we have found Buttermere, Crummock Water and Ennerdale Water to be far better options, especially if you like a bit of peace and quiet. Our favourite is Ennerdale Water-please do not overlook the long but gentle walk from the forestry car park to Black Sail Hut Youth Hostel.
All of these locations and the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway are easily accessible from the hotel. In addition the nearby towns of St Bees, Whitehaven, Workington, Cockermouth and Maryport are all worth a visit. So all in all, the location of Hunday Manor gives visitors a multitude of options for outings.

Summary
The Staff in Hunday Manor are motivated, enthusiastic, full of pride, and are always offering assistance to guests; rare qualities in this day and age.

The reason for this is quite simple-top quality Hotel Management letting the Staff get on with their jobs.

Our visit was over in a flash but we will be back in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: Rooms in the new part of the hotel appear to have the best views
