I read a few mixed reviews from various sources before visiting Hunday Manor, but any concerns were quickly erased on arrival. The hotel is set in a lovely quiet location in it's own grounds with space to stroll in the gardens or just gaze at the excellent views over the Solway Firth. Our room was not particularily large, but was clean and well decorated and perfectly adequate. Though only on bed and breakfast terms, we also dined in the stylish restaurant on both nights and had two good meals. All the staff were pleasant, attentive and helpful and made our stay most enjoyable. Please give this hotel a try, it is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: There are no ground floor rooms and those facing the front of the hotel will have extensive views over the Solway Firth.

Wondered whether we'd done right in booking here when people told us we wouldn't like Workington as it was a very industrial area. I assure you this hotel is in beautiful setting far away from industry. My husband booked this through Adrian who was on duty when we arrived. Didn't seem to be many staff but everything ran smoothly as far as we were concerned. Our room was a superior double (room 2) according to the invoice and was so comfortable and relaxing. We were there for B & B. The breakfast menu was extensive and food freshly cooked (Eggs benedict, delicious!) and nicely presented. Dining room staff very attentive and pleasant. Enjoyed the garden and took photo's of the stunning sunsets after being told of these by Lynsey. Did ask Lynsey if she had a home to go to! She seemed to be on duty all the time, what a cheerful asset she is to Hunday. Also spoke with the man cutting the grass who was very informative about the area. Domestic staff very pleasant, greeted us as we passed by. When we said goodbye to Lynsey at the desk I did say I wish we weren't moving on. We hope to go back again to stay, not just as a place to break a journey. Didn't dine in the evenings as we ate a main meal mid day when looking round the district. Dinner menu looked very nice. Such a lovely 2 day break. Seems as though the hotel offers good deals. Thank you Hunday staff.

Room Tip: Our room was on the side of the hotel where cars came by to park. Beyond is the road. We only experienced noise from some tractors going to and fro early evening. Assume they were harvesting. Didn't bother us. Very clean, very comfortable. Would ask for this room again.

Recently refurbished in stylish decor, Hunday Manor is a good choice for a break. Staff are efficient, courteous and attentive without being overbearing. We ate in the restaurant and had a very good meal - well worth paying a few pounds extra compared with the average meal we had in a local pub.The room was one of the smaller ones but it was still very comfortable and well provided (hair dryer included!). Would definitely stay again.

Booked via travelzoo deal, excellent value. Room very good and staff were first class in welcoming and attending to all our requirements. Used supper/bar menu both nights and food was well presented and of good quality. No hesitation in going back.
