“Tranquil, quality accommodation”
Reviewed 29 April 2013

This converted barn/stables offers superb accommodation with very spacious areas for breakfast or sitting in and beautifully equipped and attractive bedrooms. Ample parking and on the edge of the Peak district it provides very restful and convenient facilities. Lives up to its pictures and the owner is very friendly and helpful - right from the tea / coffee provided in the lounge on arrival, taking bags to the rooms and recommending suitable places to eat nearby (The Lamplight in Ashbourne provides great food at surprisingly reasonable prices - Don't be put off by its external appearance and entrance up a side alley, inside its lovely and the service excellent). One of the best I've been in.

Very friendly welcome on our arrival to this luxury barn conversion. Our room, The Kedleston, had a 4-poster bed and lovely views over the countryside. Breakfast was superb. Our only minus point was the high sided roll top bath with shower over head placed on a plinth. The shower sprayed water over the floor making the plinth very slippery and we had to put a towel on the floor to avoid slipping off the step.

Room Tip: Check with owner first if you have mobility problems,

We have searched many times for a really nice place to stay in the Ashbourne area as we have family that we often visit. After many disappointing experiences, we have finally found a great place to stay and we will definitely stay again and recommend to others. The whole barn is beautiful, oozes quality and is very comfortable. It all felt very luxurious and romantic with a lovely four poster bed and roll top bath. It's in a very peaceful location with views of the countryside all around. Breakfast was most enjoyable and the hosts are helpful and on hand without being obtrusive. We really enjoyed our brief stay.

Stayed for 2 nights in February to walk the Peak District. Good local pubs , the Yeaveley Arms and especially The Saracens Head. The furnishings in the rooms are lovely and the whole place is full of character
The only minus point was the wafer thin walls , you can hear absolutely everything going on next door, which is what happened on the 1st night. The 2nd night we had no neighbours and it was so much better - not having to whisper !!!

Room Tip: Chatsworth Room

Stayed for one night during a weekend stay in this beautiful area. Very welcoming host on our arrival, arranged for us to go to local gastropub for dinner, this was a 25 min walk away which we really enjoyed.
High quality barn conversion spotlessly clean, thin walls so sound travels but this is the nature of the accomodation only a problem if you're a light sleeper, phenomenally refreshing shower.
Excellent breakfast caters for all types.

Panoramic views, excellent food, great location, fantastic hosts, what more could you ask for. Rooms were excellent and certainly meet the five star grade.
Only down side was tv had to be off at 11pm. Putting that aside I would certainly go again in the future and would recommend this location to friends and family. It was easy to find, very secluded with views of the countryside all around. So no matter which room you chose you can guarantee beautiful rooms all round.

Room Tip: All rooms are great

I can't rate Jane's hostessing highly enough - we had the misfortune of breaking down en route to Staffordshire and had to be towed for half of our journey. Jane was very understanding, accommodating and professional, waiting up for us until we finally arrived at 11.30pm, which made for a very welcome relief after a stressful journey.

We loved the Sudbury Room - it was clean, modern, airy and spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. Jane's home is beautiful and we enjoyed breakfast looking out on to her lovely gardens. We both had a full english breakfast, which was yummy and we particularly enjoyed sampling the oatcakes which Jane explained are a speciality of the region.

We stayed at the Hungry Bentley Barn for one night, as part of a trip to Alton Towers (Alton Towers is about 15 mins drive away) but I wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you for your hospitality Jane.

We would highly recommend a stay here.
