Owner description: The National Trust is a registered charity. With your help, we protect some of the most important spaces and places in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We take care of historic houses, gardens, mills, coastline, forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, nature reserves, villages and pubs - and then we open them up for ever, for everyone. Dovedale valley is owned and cared for by the National Trust, with important woodlands, wildflower meadows and impressive limestone rock features throughout the valley. Please note; there is a privately owned car park a short and easy walk from the famous Stepping Stones. This is not a National Trust car park. The nearest National Trust car park is a mile away at Ilam Park, where National Trust member can park for free. There are toilets beside the Dovedale car park and these are owned and maintained by the Peak District National Park Authority. There is a charge of 20p to use these toilets.

Visited Stepping Stones today. Was very busy, to be expected as it was wall to wall sunshine, 27 degrees. I would say that photo's of the site would make it appear that it was a vast area with lots of flat grass a areas round about. Not really that vast & crossing probably only 10-20 meters wide.
The site is well organised with a staffed car park (£2.50). Toilets & ice cream/snack outlet.
You have a walk of about 0.5 miles from car park to stepping stones. Flat road on one side, slightly rugged track on the other. each arrive at the steps.
Would add ilam into sat Nav to find location, rather than postcode. Good day out with a picnic.

Not our first visit and certainly won't be our last. Even though there are a lot of cars in the car park, you walk almost always alone. Lots to see and look for as you go and lots of photo opportunities

Amazing scenery and such a great base to explore Dove Valley. Excellent base for walking either seriously or just a stroll.

We have been here before, it is a little hidden gem. The stepping stones are only a short flat walk along a path and are accessible to all to view. The scenery is lovely and there are a number of birds to be seen too. This visit it was very busy, but lovely to sit and watch everyone enjoying a beautiful area.
