“Woeful customer service...”

I would love to make a more informed judgement of this hotel, but having booked a room with them MONTHS ago, they cancelled my reservation just a couple of days before my visit. Did they call to tell me they were cancelling? No, it was just an automated email!

The purpose of our visit to this hotel was to attend a wedding in the area - as a result, we had to pay over the odds to stay elsewhere. The alternative not only cost more for the room, but it was away from the wedding we were intending, which meant we had additional taxi costs. In short, their cancellation cost us in the region of another £50!

Looking for an explanation my fiancée called them up, where their staff were most unhelpful and told us we'd need to speak to the manager, but they didn't know when he'd be in. We finally got a voicemail saying they'd accidentally double-booked us and they'd call us back. We got no call back. I tried emailing them - I didn't even get a response.

I can only hope this review prompts a response from the hotel so they may acknowledge the poor service and offer any compensation for the additional costs we incurred due to their incompetence!

Room Tip: If you book, your room isn't guaranteed - i.e. they can cancel just a few days before and may no...

I've stayed here several times over the past 5 or 6 years and it's always a nice stay. It's an old hotel (100 years plus?) which is furnished to give an idea of what it would have been like in those days - nice atmosphere, nice staff and very solid breakfasts!

We are a couple in our 30's and we stayed for two nights at the end of may. We just wanted somewhere to stay in the area as we where visiting Alton Towers (which is a 20 minute drive away). We were greeted by a lovely young lady on reception who showed us to our rooms and helped us with any questions etc. We stayed in room 12 which was very clean and furnished nicely. The bed was very comfy and had lovely plump pillows and duvet! The room had tea making facilities with plentiful tea, milk and coffee and biscuits. The bathroom was nice with complimentary soaps and big towels. Not like these little ones that you can barely cover yourself with in other hotels!!! We also had dressing gowns left for us in the wardrobes that we stumbled across. The food at this hotel was amazing. For breakfast you could choose from a long list of items which was all cooked from fresh. On our last night we booked in for dinner and we were not let down. We had the best food we have ever had. Beautifully presented and it all tasted amazing, the chef did a fantastic job. Bargain food prices for such fantastic food. Overall our stay was great. The staff were so kind and helpful and we would definatly go back or recommend this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Wifi doesn't reach all the rooms so if this is something you need then asked about it when booki...

A really great find for luxury on a budget, very welcoming and attentive owners and a perfect location for Alton Towers and the Peak District. We had a bottle of red waiting for us in our 4 poster room with red and gold decor and beautiful old furniture. My partner is 6'4 and he loved how spacious the bed was. The bathroom had a free standing bath and also a powerful shower with plenty of toiletries, towels and a bathrobe each. We had dinner and cooked breakfast here and each meal was flawless, delivered quickly and had something special that set it apart from your standard B&B .
We stayed in room 20 and after having a look through some open doors, it seems all the top bedrooms are 4 poster with the standard rooms below. Car park on site, sainsbury next door for anything you'd forgotten and a quiet but easy to find location. What more could you want?

This hotel is lovely! We arrived on Sunday 18th May and stayed for one night after a tiring day at Alton Towers. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who swiftly checked us in and showed us our room. This is an old hotel with plenty character and the rooms were very nice and comfortable! We stayed in room 15 which looked out on to the front of the hotel and was a good size with a nice bathroom (no bath - shower only). This did not bother us one bit as we prefer a shower!

Once we settled in we went for dinner. We didn't fancy a bar meal as we had had one the previous evening so asked at reception where was nice to go in Ashbourne (the hotel has a bar restaurant and when we passed the good smelt delicious!) She recommended a variety of places and we decided on an Indian restaurant called Bengal Cottage which was lovely!

The hotel is locked at night however if you fancy staying out late each room comes with a main door key so you can come in and out as you please.

In the morning we went down for breakfast which was really tasty!! To start there was tea and coffee and a variety of fresh juices as well as cereal and fruit followed by toast with jam and marmalade and a full English breakfast. Just what we needed for the long drive home! The owner served our breakfast and he was very polite and friendly!

My partner and I would both recommend this hotel! It was good value for money, situated in the lovely village of Ashbourne and with great service! We would definitely stay again!! :)

Excellent place to stay. Staff very friendly, Nicci was exceptional. Very professional, nothing was too much for her, she had smile on her face whatever the time of the day. The bedrooms were spotlessly clean and the bed comfortable. We chose to eat at the hotel one evening and the food we had was tasty and of the highest quality. Would thoroughly recommend staying and eating at the hotel.

The Staff (Nicki especially) are fantastic, they could not do enough from the moment of booking to us leaving.
I booked this for a Birthday and the room was beautiful and spotlessly clean, four poster very comfortable bed with tea, coffee etc, lovely bathroom with gorgeous roll top bath and separate shower with lovely complimentary toiletries. We booked in for dinner on the evening also and that too was fantastic, not too expensive and the food was exceptional. Breakfast was fabulous too and piping hot which I really liked.
I wanted to go into the country the next day so I asked if it was possible for them to do a packed lunch, well they totally excelled themselves there, there was enough for at least four people even though there was only two of us, with lots of variety.
If I was going to stay in Ashbourne again I would certainly stop at the Station Hotel and cannot recommend it enough.
Thank you to all concerned.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are good as I had a little nosey inside.
