“Cosy cottage - perfect for a romantic weekend!”
Reviewed 29 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

My fiance and I stayed in Christmas Cottage over the bank holiday weekend. Our aim for the weekend was to have a relaxing stay, with a change of scenery and to visit a few scenic landmarks. All of the above was achieved!! When we arrived at the cottage, we instantly felt at home. We were greeted by a welcome pack with plenty of recommendations and information on the area; as well as a tray full of essentials and THE MOST AMAZING CAKE WE HAD EVER TASTED. I'm not even joking, I must have eaten two slices a day and we took what was left home! The cottage itself was very cosy and we were a bit surprised about how small the kitchen was, but it was extremely well equipped. We were worried that we would have to bring a lot of kitchen utensils from home, but the cottage had everything we needed. Everything was clean and comfortable - we could tell that it was very well looked after.

Whilst staying at Christmas cottage, we visited Ashbourne which had LOADS of antique shops which were fun to browse in. The welcome back also made some great recommendations of cafes and restaurants that we visited - we didn't have a bad meal. One place I would recommend would be the "Stepping Stones" restaurant which is a 5 minute drive from the cottage, on the way to Ashbourne. We had really sunny weather all weekend which meant we could visit the peaks, which were beautiful. On our way home, we went to Alton Towers which was only a short drive away. Overall, our weekend was lovely and Christmas Cottage was the perfect place to stay.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Charlotte, the lady who owns the cottage, for making the booking process so easy and recommending so many lovely things to do. She very much tailored our stay to our interests - so thank you Charlotte!!

“Superb”
Reviewed 27 November 2014 for a stay in November 2014

This was our first weekend away together as a couple and we weren't disappointed. From the moment we arrived at Christmas Cottage we felt warm and comfortable and felt like it was a home away from home. Charlotte had been kind enough to make sure the heating was on for when we got there which, given the fact that it was rather cold and wet outside was most welcome. She also left us a welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a rather nice chocolate cake. On Saturday we sliced up some cake, made a flask of coffee and went to Dovedale for the first time which was beautiful. We spent Sunday at Carsington Waters which was equally has nice. The Cottage had absolutely everything we needed for our stay and we hope to come back to stay again in the Spring.
Thank you Charlotte, for helping to make our first break away as a couple a special one.

“Lovely cottage, great cake!”
Reviewed 3 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

A lovely cute cottage for our 2 night break during half term. Great communication from the owner. Fabulous chocolate cake baked for us. Very clean, well maintained property. Lots of info for days out. Really focused on what a holiday maker may need. We had our 3 month old baby and the stairs were challenging but doable with care. Bring your own travel cot as there is not one there.

Thank you so much for the review, I'm pleased that you found it cute, we think it is too! Rather than let it out for 4 people we advertise it as a 2 person cottage which gives the luxury of space but with lots of character. We hope that you will return to stay at Christmas cottage soon.

“Stylish, country cottage”
Reviewed 4 September 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Stayed here for a long weekend this summer, sat outside with a glass of wine most evenings and watched the world go by. V nice village with friendly local pub (dog friendly!) and it also has a nice beer garden. The cottage is nicely decorated with lots of equipment and good quality furnishings. Great location for nice walks and visits to local attractions. Walked around Carsington Water and through Dovedale. Very pretty.

“Great location”
Reviewed 11 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Stayed here for three nights on a mini break to the Peak District with my wife. Initially we chose this cottage for its location and the fact that it allows pets meant that we could take our cocker spaniel with us. The owner left us a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk, sugar, biscuits, cake and wine! It is a charming cottage and just right for our requirements. Spotlessly clean with bathrobes supplied too. As an added bonus it is just two doors away from the local pub which serves good food. As per the description, it is laid out over three floors and you do need to be reasonably fit to climb the very steep stairs! Would definitely return here. My tip for this property is that if you hang out of the top bathroom window you can connect to the free Wifi in the pub two doors down!

Thank you for submitting a review of your stay in Christmas Cottage, it is much appreciated. We also feel that it's location is one of the best things about the cottage, and obviously close proximity to the pub definitely helps! Good news on the Wi-fi front - it's on it's way! Thanks.

“Fabulous location, spotlessly clean and comfortable with nice added touches.”
Reviewed 14 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Loved the convenient location close to Ashbourne but in a quiet and pretty village of Clifton. We really appreciated the added extras after a 30 hour door to door commute from Sydney. We did not drop into a shop on the way and Charlotte had baked a beautiful cake that, along with the well stocked tea tray was a most welcoming surprise. The decor and quality of everything in the cottage was great and Charlotte's notes made it so easy to settle into our temporary home. The only bad point about our stay was leaving. Derbyshire is now our favourite area in the UK and we hope to return to Christmas Cottage to enjoy more.
