Although only there for the Friday night live music night we had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent - the belly pork with its crackling was superb as was the jam sponge pudding! Will definitely be making a return visit !

It might not be the Ritz, but for the money I paid, I couldn’t ask for more. From making the reservation, to the minute I left, the owner Mick was friendly and helpful, and made me feel like it was a wee home from home. The room itself was basic & clean. It could do with a little TLC, but for £45, it covered everything that I needed. We had food before we headed out to the event, a massive plateful of gammon steak, egg and chips….and so much more with it. It was lovely but couldn’t eat half of it – felt guilty for leaving so much!! The bar staff were friendly, and helped arrange taxi’s to and from the event. In the morning, I was given a cup of tea that I wasn’t charged for, Mick gave me a lift up to the bank as I’d ran out of money for my taxi to the station, and his lovely kitchen staff made me a sandwich for my journey back to London (and the sandwich was yum!)

If you’re looking for a plush hotel, with all the mod cons and a nice fluffy dressing gown & slippers, then this hotel is not for you. If you are, however, looking for a friendly hotel that does good food, cheap rooms and happy to go that little bit further to make your stay a good one, then this hotel is definitely for you.

Keep up the good work Mick & Team, you certainly made my hangover more bearable thanks to that great cup of tea, and sorry for stealing your room for the night!

We went here with friends who live close by and were pleasantly surprised at how nice and fresh tasting the carvery was. A really good selection of meats and the vegetables were very tasty. Would definitely go again of back in the area.

We stayed on the 26th and 27th July 2013. We were warned it could be lively on the Friday so we were prepared for a late night. Although full of youngsters they were all very friendly.
The food was excellent and so much so that we did not have breakfast as we were still full from the night before.
On the Saturday night it was very busy but once again the food was excellent.
During the evening the sky opened and it poured with rain. Unfortunately the roof drainage could not cope and water leaked through the ceilings of the upstairs landing and then the down stairs.
The landlord and staff did what they could putting containers under all the leaks.
We felt sorry for the overwhelming situation they were in and helped empty the containers which were filling quite quickly.
We were given free drinks and an offer of a free meal and wine should we return. Unfortunately as we were touring, our return journey did not allow a return.
Despite the leaking roof we would not hesitate to return. Reasonably priced, friendly and good food.
It is not the Ritz but it is not Ritz prices.

This is the worst place I have stayed in! Stayed for a couple of nights and ordered food but with great regret the only edible food was the chips! The food was ghastly! Very noisy as it is on a main road. While we were there, they had a bit of a flood and water must have come through the roof and pored down the walls and ceiling and they had no consideration for the guests as they kept coming upstairs and talking at the top of their voices 2 o'clock in the morning! Definetly would not recommend this establishment!!

By far the worst food I've eaten in Castle Donington and it's pricey too. Service was extremely slow (even though the restaurant was mostly empty). Half our table had to send their food back because it was stone cold on arrival. Haven't stayed overnight, but if the restaurant is anything to go by I feel sorry for those that have.

Stopped here for lunch on a day out. Both ordered lasagne. Everything on the plate was obviously home cooked - you can just tell by the shapes and how they look. The lasagne was great, with home cut and cooked chips, salad, carrots and home made garlic bread. The price was so reasonable for what we got and we've already told friends about it. Paid alot more the next day at one of those 'chains' and the food wasn't a patch on this.
