“Birthday treat.”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

My lovely brother bought a meal for my partner for his birthday, he knew we loved Castleton and Rose Cottage....so we turned up for lunch. You peruse the menu and order at the counter, the staff are young and very sweet. We had soup to start, lovely, then standard fish and chips for me....Everything was beautifully cooked and served up promptly and very politely. Rose cottage is clean, the decor is just right and the outside seating and garden are delightful. Top marks for you, we will be back, thanks.

“Great little tearoom, exceeded expectations”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

Castleton was busy the day we went, and we went into two tearooms and found no room for us, and on finding the Rose Cottage did have space, I kind of wondered if there was a reason, but I shouldn't have worried. We ordered at the counter (I actually like this when with small children, better than having to wait 10 minutes for menus and 10 minutes to order), and the drinks came in about 5 minutes and the food came in 10 . We had soup, quiche, and a child's sandwich, and everything was just lovely, very clearly home made chunky leek & potato soup with lovely fresh ciabatta, and a lovely lightly baked quiche that was creamy and full of flavour. Fresh salad garnish and there was really very little about this lunch that could have been improved. We finished up with a slice of cake and a scone. Great value as well, at considerably less than eating in a pub or similar.

Lovely little tearoom, would highly recommend

“Take a break here”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

We stopped here for a rest at Castleton and found this very delightful tearoom and restaurant. The cream tea was delicious and the pot of tea very welcome - lovely and hot and thirst-quenching. The staff were friendly and courteous and the atmosphere relaxed. It is spotlessly clean. Always a good sign when you see the staff eating there too. Try it out - lovely all round.

“Delicious soup”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

We had the most delicious carrot and coriander soup. Not an easy soup to make as many cafes serve and is tasteless, but not this, lovely spice, creamy coconut and fresh coriander. Husband's sandwich ok but he complained because his cheese was grated, a bit fussy I think as nice salad and chutney.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Called in here before our journey home. We tried their fish and chips with a miniature tea cup of mushy peas and homemade tartar sauce. Granddaughter had a slice of their chocolate cake which looked beautiful .All served with two pots of tea for a very reasonable £20. the staff were very efficient and pleasant. The outside dining area was very clean and picturesque. Worth calling in if you feeling hungry, we would certainly go back.
