We stayed at Dale Cottage for a week over Easter. Lisa, the owner, was there when we arrived & was really helpful. The Cottage is in a great location in the village, close to the pubs, restaurants & shops; all a couple of minutes walk from the front door. The cottage was very comfortable & had everything you could want.
A very spacious, well equipped cottage with great walks on your doorstep. Excellent pubs to eat in. We were greeted by the lovely owner who gave us all the information about the cottage we needed.
Great cottage in a very central location with easy access to local pubs and shops. Stunning walks from the front door and lovely views of Mam Tor from windows.
The cottage was very well equipped with lots of extras available to use including food items/condiments that we all forget to bring with us. Washing machine & drier useful additions. The cottage was very clean, warm and cosy given wet weather on our arrival. Staircase steep and short, could be awkward with kids/elderly.
Had a lovely stay and communication with owner Lisa was very good.
Excellent accommodation close to pubs and restaurants. We were met by Lisa who helped in planning our weekend. Plenty of walks and things to do locally. Cottage had everything you need with lots of little extra's.
Stayed for Feb half term midweek break. Lisa was there to meet us on arrival and went through everything. Cottage was clean and well equipped with everything we needed and good if you want to take the dog as its all hard floors downstairs.
Note, if you have toddlers the stairs are quite steep, though there is a stair gate on the top landing. The 3 bedrooms are a good size, with an ensuite shower room as well as seperate bathroom with overhead shower. The kingsize bed was very comfortable. Theres a well equipped kitchen with dishwasher and a utility room with washing machine and tumble drier though we didn't need to use.
Welcome pack of bread etc on arrival but also much more (cereals/shampoo/conditioner/washing liquid)
Its a stones throw away from the pubs and shops so no need to get back in the car once you've arrived. We recommend the 'Nags Head', for food and just 2 miles away in Hope is The 'Old Hall' where we also enjoyed a lovely meal. Both are dog and muddy boot friendly so easy to stop off after a long walk.
Great location for walking. Cave Dale is directly behind the cottage and Peak cavern and Peveril Castle are within walking distance.
Parking is a limited with space for 1 car outside the property.
If you're planning on eating in, its worth stocking up on supplies before arrival as the local bakery and store have limited products and they're quite pricey. Obviously aimed at the tourists.
Visited for a long weekend in Feb and this cottage is excellent. The owner is very friendly and very helpful; the central cottage location and views from the front bedrooms are super, a welcome pack of basic food, toilet rolls plus all towels and bed linen and basic cleaning products was wonderful. The cottage is clean and very well equipped - tall people beware of the low ceilings on the stairwell as it is a very old building, but it has all mod cons, a very useful washing machine and tumble dryer, TV, Wifi, games and well equipped kitchen.
Within a very short stroll are the pubs, shops, tea rooms, caverns and castle of Castleton. No need to get the car out for the whole weekend as so much to see and do on the doorstep!!!
We stayed at Dale Cottage for 3 nights in February and from the minute we arrived we felt like we were staying in our own home. Lisa met us at the cottage to talk us through everything and was great.
The cottage was lovely, clean and on arrival we had a welcome pack with the essentials of bread, eggs, butter, milk and even some nutritious treats for our furry companion.
The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you'd need in terms of hardware and it was lovely to find a few added extras such as oil, coffee, tea, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing tablets etc that could have been left from previous guests but was great to find never the less.
In the living room there was a great bonus of an Amazon Firestick which included access to Netflix and Amazon Prime, something we didn't expect but as a bit of a techie myself I found this a great bonus.
For the none techies there are plenty of books, games and even some toy for the little people to enjoy.
I'd recommend the Nags Head as maybe the best all round pub in the village in terms of food and drink but the staff could do with forcing a few smiles and pleasantries for paying guests. They do a 2 steaks and a bottle of wine deal for £35 and out of 8 steaks we didn't have a bad one.
All in all it was a great few days, very reasonably priced and a stones throw from the centre of Castleton. I'd recommend Dale Cottage to anyone and hopefully we can stay again in future.
