The pub was nicely decorated, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice but the food was average. The steak and ale pie tasted if nothing but ale and the lasagne was very fatty and lacked flavour.

After a long day we arrived to Castleton for a few drinks, due to the timing of the evening we decided to stay and have dinner. One adult from our group was more hungry so order her food 40 minuerts before the rest of us. Due to the food not being brought out after 50 minuets we went to the bar to require information about what's happening, a waitor came out to inform us that it'd be 15 minuets for the stake... 30 minuets later the rest of the food came, yet not the stake we orded over an hour and a half ago. We asked only then did he claim the order had be lost! So even after informing us it would only be 15 minuets it turned out he had lied as the food had never been cooked! Instead of listening to our inquiries and complaints, he argued against us becomes snappy and rude! His tone of voice was unfriendly and his short temper was unprofessional. We asked for a refund which they did give as well as the food. When the food did come the order was still wrong! The waitors refused to accept it was their fault we had this trouble and became passive with our table. If the waitors hadn't become so rude we would of gone back as accidents do occur, yert due to how rude they were we will never go back. Totally ruined all of our previous experiences and we certainly wouldn't recommend it to any friends or family!

The situation of this little pub/hotel is excellent and everything was fine. The only minor fault was that I felt they were a little short staffed while we were there but this did not detract from our visit and we would most definitely stay here again

The castle is a really nice pub with a great beer garden and beautiful views. When we visited it wasn't overly busy, but tables hadnt been cleared from us arriving to us leaving. We ordered food on 2 separate occasions, first occasion was a bacon and Brie cob, the wait for this was quite a while, with other customers food being brought out before ours even though they had ordered after us. The second occasion we ordered a burger each which when arrived was barely luke warm. Quite disappointed and I'm afraid to say we won't be eating here again for a long while.

This is the third bad experience at this pub and in my book that means not again as in my business will be going elsewhere. Vintage inns are part of what is probably Britains biggest food and drink empire and I often frequent vintage inns. This I find to be the worst by far. Why well there can only be one answer which is poor quality local management because I fail to understand why when I walk into a half empty restaurant at 4 pm on a Sunday the first thing I am told is there is no roast beef and a 30 minute wait for everything else left on the menu. I fail to understand because on Sunday its a restricted and largely carvery menu. When the food does arrive precisely 30 minutes later its edible but lukewarm so exactly what have they been doing ? Well one can only guess because they seem to have enough waiting staff so its got to be a kitchen problem either not enough staff in there or they are simply not competent. Either way its not good enough at the premium prices they charge to expect customers to put up with such poor quality. So my advice to visitors to Castleton is go somewhere else , there is plenty of choice offering better quality.
