Had a day out in Castleton and decided to try this place for food...

I was not disappointed and I doubt anyone would be including your dog as dogs are welcome here.

The food is all homemade and you can tell they know what they are doing.

I had the homemade beef in ale and potato pie with chips and peas... This was on a par to my nanans cooking from a long time ago. Simply beautiful...real food... melt in the mouth pastry, large pieces of meat that fell apart. The chips were beautiful.
The portions are big and you feel like you have been fed.

My friend had the cheese and pickle sandwich with chips and couldn't finish it off as was so big.

There is a great selection of hand pulled cask ales (which I sampled as wasn't driving)

Very friendly staff that made you feel very welcome and a really relax atmosphere... I didn't want to leave..

There are rooms available if you are lucky enough to be able to stay.

Clean, friendly, great food and ales.. what more could anyone want when you've had a day walking...

A must visit if ever in this area :)

We stayed a short walk away and had a meal here. The meal was excellent and the staff very obliging. It could never be called fancy, but the atmosphere and surroundings along with the quality of the food made it well worth the visit. It is at the start (or finish) of the Pennine Way walk. We loved it.

After a long walk on hot day nice cool old pub that allowed our dog in. Lovely real ale, squid for starter and Stilton pate, both very tasty. Main home made pie, sausage n cheesy mash in giant yorkshire pud. Both great. Too full for pudding sadly. Bet it's cosy in winter with the real fires.

We used the pub three times over the weekend- the staff were keen to please in a relaxed way and the food we had at lunch time was exellent and very good value for money.

We ate at the Nags Head twice last week whilst staying in Castleton. The pub is cosy and traditional with friendly staff. We tried the sausage and mash "mix and match" on one night and the steak and wine offer for two on another and really enjoyed both - and both were great value.
We liked it so much we are planning to come back later in the year for a weekend and when we mentioned this to a member of staff we were very kindly shown some of the refurbished bedrooms which were excellent. Just got to decide how soon we can return!
