Did a walk in tonight (monday). About 2 or 3 tables mid meal. Unusually my daughter, aged 12, couldn't find a pizza that really took her fancy... everything just a little to complicated. Dispite this the waitress was fine when we asked for a simple mushroom and prosciutto pizza without cheese. I ordered a risotto. The two tables who ordered after us were told there would be a long wait as chef was busy. We waited rather longer than I would have anticipated even allowing for my order being risotto. When the food came i ordered more drinks that didn't arrive and that had to be re requested after I had finished eating, as the waiting staff didn't eye sweep the room for orders on their infrequent visits to the dining room. The food itself... the risotto was underseasoned, I cannot remember the last time i added seasoning to a restaurant meal, the rice was just not quite cooked enough, giving it the texture of overcooked long grain rather than the arborio creaminess. No extra parmesan was offered. I tasted the pizza, again the dough was under salted, but the texture was ok, the sauce was underseasoned and if anything a little too acidic to be comforting. The prosciutto was lovely, and mushrooms fresh. The dessert was beautiful, chocolate mousse with hot chocolate... couldn't fault that at all. The bill was wrong but apologetically corrected. So ok it wasn't over priced but service was slow, food simply didn't live up to expectations it was 'ok'.
however, planned the menu and fresh the food is just one or two really straightforward pizzas in an italian restaurant is always welcome. I've been to Italy so i know what constitutes real italian and anglicised Italian food and I think this tried a bit too hard to be either.
