I stayed at the Castle Inn with my 2 children for two nights in different rooms and having read the reviews on here would have to dispute the decor being tired or dirty, it was in fact modern, tasteful and clean.
Check in was slow and the staffing level seemed to be under optimum but the staff I met were without exception friendly and helpful. We stayed in rooms, 7, 8 and 9, all in the stables annexe and all very pleasant, clean and excellent value.
Breakfast was a good quality continental breakfast with fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastires, great selection of cereals and toast with jams/marmalades. i do agree however that a full English would do this establishment justice.
We ate in the pub only once for lunch and it was a lovely, hearty warming lunch. Ales were in good supply and well priced.
All in all it was the perfect base for a break with my children, with good food, friendly staff, and good ales at a reasonable price. I cannot speak for the rooms in the main building but certainly the annexe rooms were lovely. Traditional Derbyshire Inn at good prices.
