Our room cost £80 per night which for a pub/hotel is quite expensive but it had a Four Poster so we were looking forward to staying. We were heading to Castelton for a gig in the Devils A*** (Peak Cavern) and we only needed to stay one night but most hotels in Castleton have a minimum 2 night rule so we decided to combine the stay with hubbys birthday.
On arrival we managed to park as the hotel has its own parking which is important as there is limited parking in Castleton. We walked in to the hotel and the pub was quite busy and we were left standing around by two bar staff who serving. We asked where the reception was and a pedestal with a book was pointed at.
We were booked in about 10 mins after arriving and were asked if we needed showing to the room but we didnt. The room was called Winnats and was at the top of the hotel so not suitable for anyone with a mobility problem.
The room was very small and completely dominated by the Four Poster.
The furniture to be honest was a bit shabby looking and the carpet in the room didnt look that clean to me. The bed linen was clean though and after a good nights sleep we found the bed to be cosy and comfy. The cupboards to hang clothes were a bit old and shabby looking as well. The room was a bit cold but there was a heater in the cupboard if needed.
I was looking forward to a hot shower and saw the bath was nice and deep but there was no shower to speak of, just this sort of mixer tap hand held affair. I was really disappointed because this had not been pointed out to us and due to knee problem i couldnt get in and out of the bath easily. This really disappointed me and i felt is was unacceptable. Also there was no blind or any frosted glass to the bathroom window. Admittedly the room was high up and probably not visable from street level but it felt exposed.
We did sleep well both nights and admittedly the room had a notice in saying that all the rooms were being refurbished but if that is the case the prices should reflect this.
We ate in the hotel the first night and the food was okay but nothing to write home about. Breakfast however was very good and the best choice i have seen for a long time.
We did enjoy our break but it could have been so much better with the hotel accomodation we were expecting.

Room Tip: Ask if the room has been refurbished and don't have the Winnats room.

Loved this Hotel. Great food for breakfast ( which is included in the price) and dinner in the evening. We stayed in the delux room which was lovely. Everything tastefully decorated . So nice to walk straight out onto the street for a wander through the village. The township of Castleton is a handy short drive to other small villages and tourist attractions, and a few minutes walk to the main cave tour.
Board games available in relaxed lounge area. A long way from Australia for a return trip but would thoroughly recommend to anyone travelling this area.

Room Tip: Paying the little extra price for deluxe or superior room well worth it. Our room over looked the st...

I stayed here for one night with my partner. Our room was one of the cheapest but was beautiful. It was clean, the bed was lovely and comfortable and the furniture was very authentic looking. The en suite had a toilet, sink and shower and was very modern. The room has lots of lovely drink sachets, including hot chocolate, a small bottle of red wine and bottled water were even included.
The hotel is in a great location and there is free parking in the pub car park.
The breakfast, which was included in the price of the room, was wonderful. There was tea/coffee, cereals, yogurts, toast, fresh fruit juice and then a full English which was the best I've ever had.
Overall for the £50 we spent we were incredibly happy with our stay and would definitely return.

Me and my partner decided to spend a night in castleton as we had a few activities booked over the weekend, after a huge struggle to find a room for a 1 night stay anywhere in castleton the staff here were very helpful and advised they had a room they could give us for the Saturday night! It was one of the cheaper rooms that was offered too us but I was happy to take it despite being abit precarious that it might not be up to what we were wanting! What a lovely surprise we got! The room was lovely, nice and cosy, extremely clean and nicely decorated with a lovely modern en suit bathroom, fantastic value for money, so much so we headed down for breakfast in the morning which was lovely from start to finish topped off with fresh coffee which was a pleasant surprise, when we headed over to pay for what we had eaten we were told it was in with the price of the room!! We couldn't believe the value for money and spent the afternoon sampling the lovely cask ales the pub has to offer. The location was fantastic and we will deffinatly stop there again next time we visit.

This was our 4th year to The Nags Head and it didn't disappoint. Some of our rooms had a makeover and refurbished Bathrooms which were a nice surprise. Staff always friendly and helpful, Lauren was great and had already sorted out our rooms for next year too!

Must mention the food before I go, which we all enjoyed, a good selection but they could do with updating the menu from time to time. Honest fare, good portions but could do with a little injection of imagination.
See you all in 2015
