“wonderful caves”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

these caves are a bit out of the way but the bonus is that it's a wonderful scenic drive, and its not packed with coaches or school parties like the other caves as a result. the real stand out thing was the wonderful guide, who with great care and proffessionalism showed us the cave system whilst giving us a wonderful explaination of its history and geology interspersed with enjoyable anecdotes and sometimes hilarious accounts of various events. Great fun, learnt a lot, super value, and a fabulous scenic drive - a highlight of our trip.

“Very interesting tour”
Reviewed 17 May 2014

We went on a tour into the cavern, and it was very interesting, the staff extremely friendly and we enjoyed our visit very much.
There are about 300 steps, some of these are extremely deep, and it is a bit damp in places, so you need some grippy shoes and a decent pair of knees.

“Experience for the grandchildren”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

In an attempt to show younger members of our family something different we visited the Blue John Cavern. The grandchildren aged 13 and 8 were reasonably interested, but granddad started off with a few minutes of claustrophobia when having to wait several minutes in a cramped staircase whilst an outgoing party slowly made their return up the steep staircase.
He is not going to visit again. The muttering from some visitors drowned the otherwise very helpful information from our guide.
Interesting cash collection system on entry. No tickets, receipts or apparent counting of numbers.
Nice little earner for the owner, and a bit of a safety issue ?

Thank you for yur review.

May I state the obvious, that any one who suffers from claustrophobia should not really attempt to enter an attraction like ours. May I also point out that we take our safety policies very seriously!

“Worth a visit if you haven't been underground before”
Reviewed 10 May 2014 via mobile

The Blue John cavern is out in the hillside outside Castleton. Entry is by a small iron gate and you are guided down steps through various levels to see the mining of the Blue John stone. If you are expecting a working mine you will be disappointed. If you want a bit of English history it is for you. The trip is several hundred steps down and up but with breather breaks if you need them. Not an array of stalactites etc but a good insight into how life was lived.

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

What a find…

Our family had a great time visiting. The guide (a young guy – sorry forgotten his name) was great. Took the party round at the pace they were happy with answered all the questions put to him and interacted with the kids on the tour as well – top job.

The Blue John at £10 per head for an adult is great value for money and there are not many experiences these days which off a great visit like this. My wife doesn’t like enclosed spaces, but it wasn’t a problem, so almost everybody should be OK to visit.

The walk back up is taken at your own pace, with frequent stops, so again don’t worry.

Go try it – it’s worth it to see something created by ice and water millions of years ago.
