“Walkies!”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

I have to admit we are a group of hardened walkers, so this walk is a bit of an afternoon stroll for us, that said on a nice day it's a great walk with excellent views of the area. Access is so easy that it is well suited to those out for an 'easy' hill walk, families with young children and older folks, of which I'm rapidly approaching, out for a walk. There is no problem with route finding and as an introduction to hill walks it is a first class staring point. We used it as part of a longer walk and made the detour into Castleton where there are plenty of places for refreshment.

“Great walk suitable for families”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

Great opportunity to introduce younger children to hill and moorland walking - great views and plenty to keep them occupied. On a clear day you get amazing vistas in all directions, safe even when the cloud and mist rolls in.

“Excellent views and stretch of the legs!”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

Group of 6 being led by my daughter (12) who had her waterproof map cover at the ready. She led us up cave dale on the steep climb through running water coming downhill after all the rain, sheep and lambs. Her compass led us to turn right and make our way up to Mam Tor. What a view and sense of achievement for the girls. Very windy so we could not sit and have our packed lunch, but still great. made our way along the well defined ridge saying hello to other walkers of varying ages to Black Tor. Now that was a climb! But what a view at the top once I had recovered my breadth, my daughter and friend had got there a few minutes before me! On to Losehill for the final climb before the welcome downhill trek to Hope then along the valley back to base at Castleton and a well earned refreshment. Congratulations to my daughter for leading us round and proving she could read a map. She felt a great sense of achievement as did we all. Took us around 4 hours to complete so make sure you put £5 in the meter at the car park( or park on the road nearby)

“Beautiful views”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

I have fond memories of this area from childhood and went back for the first time in a while, It's a short walk from the car park and you quickly reach the top, from where you get great views over the Hope Valley to the east and towards Edale and the start of the Pennine Way to the north. The ridge goes on for mies if you want, or just enjoy the short stroll. A fine walk for those not up to a long hike - you very quickly get to beautiful views

“Great walk”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

the walk along the ridge can be done in several ways and in several directions - very worth the view, and walkable from Castleton itself
