Walking is easy on a paved track....to preserve the hill from erosion I suppose. Fabulous views all the way. The way to the start of the walk from Blue John cave wasn't very clearly signposted but the ladies in the little café directed us to walk up the road to the start of the footpath

Thank Sylvia G

We parked in the National Trust Car Park, which of course is free for NT Members. The Car Park ticket machine only takes credit/debit cards unfortunately, but presumably this is due to the risk of theft in the isolated location. The route up Mam Tor is clearly marked and is punctuated with a few gates en route. There is a brilliant stone path to the top with the slabs well placed if you have a long stride and feel energetic.

But simply, a gentle climb with beautiful views, hard to beat.....

My friend and I walked here as alternative exercise to the gym last weekend. The views were lovely and the walk, although quite steep and strenuous, is completely enjoyable- especially if you're walking at a relaxed pace.

Well made paths to the top from the car park . Bit annoyed at having to use credit card for parking ticket machine ,because it attracts greater international fees than the cost of parking.

Boy, did it rain - but it was a great trek. Walked the circuit from Castleton to Hope and then up to Losehill, then across the ridge to Mam Tor and back down into Castleton.
