“Very good rooms - helpful, friendly staff”
Reviewed 21 July 2013

Very accommodating hosts. We were there for a nearby wedding & they helped us with several extra needs we had, as it was our wedding anniversary as well. Nothing was too much trouble & always done with a smile & not just the landlady, but also the young lad who helped with our taxi & the sandwiches. Lovely couple of rooms quite spacious & high roofed, clean & comfortable. Really good breakfast too.

Room Tip: The Inn only has 4 bedrooms. Room 1 is a lovely double with a spa bath. Room 4 is a very nice twin r...

A lovely spacious comfortable room with a fan for warmer nights, which was very handy. The hosts very friendly and I would definitely recommend staying here to any of my friends. We have even talked abut heading back there at Christmas to see the town lit up...we know where we'll stay!

Hello.
Sorry to hear that you weren't entirely happy with your visit to The Peaks Inn.
Since you posted your your review, The Peaks has undergone a major overhaul in October 2014, and has changed back into it's original name of The Peak Hotel.
This impressive revamp has enhanced the quality of all decor both inside and out now making it the quirkiest and most fun gin and ale bars in the area, whilst in keeping with local traditions.
The Peak Hotel now boasts...
*Delicious home made food served all day everyday.
*Over fifty beautiful Gins from around Great Britain.
*Five award winning seasonal cask ales and a minimum of two ever changing craft beers.
*And of course four high quality en-suite four poster rooms.
I sincerely hope that you can call in again soon and see how a once less than appetising pub has become a thriving and fun pub for all the family.
Thank you for your review.

We recently had a family get together in Castleton and decided to eat at The Peaks Inn on the Friday night. The lamb with new potato's and peas with the wild garlic dressing was superb. The following night we had the pleasure of watching the Hobo Sheiks, a fine blues band, and a wonderful way to spend a Saturday night with some great beer and a band.

Recently stayed in room 1, the room its self is clean and comfortable with a lovely view of the castle but in need of a little TLC . The cooked breakfast was very very nice if not slightly on the small side. The only real grumble i have was with the cost of the drink i ordered in the bar..........a little over £13.00 for 2 x double honey JD and cokes, probably the reason no-one else was in the bar on a thurs eve and the reason i only ordered one round of drinks.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back will be quieter

When I booked this place over the phone, I was not informed about the rock concert that would be taking place directly under my room. Band, complete with full PA system, which went on to nearly midnight. With the resulting rowdy bar noise (I mean really loud), packing up etc finally finishing after 1.20 in the morning.

I don't think it's much to ask that I should have been informed of this, thus giving me the option of booking elsewhere. Unfortunately, by this time I had had a couple of drinks and so could not then drive otherwise I would have cut short the trip and gone home, such was the noise.

It seemed the next day, that the owners didn't agree with me and, to be frank, were shall we say not the least interested at all in my complaint. So that's a zero for customer service as well. Despite the landlords statement of “what do I expect if I stay in a pub”, I have stayed in countless ‘pubs, inns, taverns, hotels’ etc all over the country and not experienced this.

I cannot comment on the food as, having had a meal elsewhere and a few drinks, we thought it might be nice to return to our inn and have a desert. This was not possible as we were told the kitchen had closed and all surfaces cleared. The time: 8.15! Really, for a simple desert? There is nothing like good customer service and yes, this is nothing like it.

I only wish I had read some of the other very similar tales within these reports. It would have steered me away from this place.

In all, a thoroughly unpleasant experience although we had to laugh as, on driving away we quickly passed a sign for Shatton- summed up perfectly!
