“One night - needed more.”

4 of us stayed overnight on a Saturday in May. Now that sentence alone is a triumph in Castleton as other Castleton B&Bs have a minimum 2 night stay rule. The staff are friendly and obliging, the place is clean, the food and beer is more than acceptable. It's all had a good clean up since the previous owners and it's the previous history that past punters may not be forgiving with their bad reviews. The Peak has pressed the reset button and it's well worth a visit. The rooms are spacious, simple but well appointed, comfortable bed and a bathroom larger than a Travelodge double room! I'm not easily pleased; but this experience was good enough to get top marks from us.

Room Tip: Room 3 is recommended. Room 4 was smaller but quieter.

After a day's visit to Castleton, we decided to stay the night, while doing our impression of Mary & Joseph and getting turned away like them "no rooms available", we came across the Peaks Inn with one room available.
We were warmly welcomed and greeted and shown our room, even during the busy early evening, we stayed in room 4, which was really nice, spacious and comfortable, with seperate big bathroom and bath, which was great after a day's walking.
The pub itself is lively and comfortable, with drinks a plenty and nothing to complain about, if you got bored of chatting to each other, there were plenty of board games etc to play.

After reading some of the reviews about the place, and cant believe what people expect, "it's pub" but with nice accommodation, what do you want"

There was no great rush to get you out in the morning, and the breakfast was fantastic a great way to start another of walking.

All n All Castleton is a lovely village to visit and stay, with the Peaks Inn a recommended place to stay.

Thanks

Comfortable stay in a spacious room, however the noise from passing traffic was a distraction in such a peaceful area as the hope valley. Double glazed windows would be a distinct improvement plus the window was broke at the time of stay and could not be fully closed.
The staff were friendly, especially Pascal. Breakfast was tasty and plenty of what was available. Fresh fruit and yoghurts, homemade brown bread and scones would make it a much better experience.
We intend returning to Castleton in June and would consider staying here again.

Stayed with a group of friends over xmas.
Perfect location for a getaway or walking holiday.
The convenient carpark opposite, has plenty of spaces and is nice and safe.
The pub itself is your typical country pub style, standard decor, warm and welcoming.
As for the staff, great hosts, friendly, welcoming and what id hope from b&b staff.
The rooms are great. We fully occupied the b&b, so got the chance to use them all, which where all very well sized, very comfortable, clean, well equipped with tea and coffee making facilities and a decent amount of storage space for those staying for more than a few days. All individually decorated to a high enough standard and very unique to each other.
We stayed for evening meal, which was standard pub grub and well portioned, same went for the morning breakfast, i was delighted with my perfectly cooked runny egg.
With it being a sat night, the evening entertainment was great and had several punters up on the dance floor, including the owner.
The only downside to the whole stay was the pub toilets, which needed a little tlc but overall had an excellent stay and would recommend the Peak Inn.

I visit the lovely village of castleton often. visited the peaks inn a couple of times before dec 2013. The service was terrible the place was dirty. Myself and my husband visited castleton again in feb 2014 and what a change, you could instantly tell there were different people in charge. nice pint and a warm welcome.Shall be calling in again.

Stayed for two nights with family and friends. Service was excellent and welcoming. Nothing too much trouble. Excellent location had a thoroughly enjoyable stay, Made better by such welcoming hosts and staff. Rooms spacious with tea and coffee making facilities also had an evening meal and can certainly recommend the breakfast which had good quality ( I believe locally sourced) bacon and sausages. On the Saturday night the band (pint of mild) were fantastic with some great guitar rifts playing many of the classics. Will definitely be returning. On a last note there is dedicated parking across the road. Which is helpful when visiting at this time of year. Overall had a thoroughly enjoyable and festive stay

Ordered a beer and it tasted like TCP. Literally the worst pint I have ever tasted. The barman said it was meant to taste like that and refused to replace it. Not a good pub for ales. In summary, rubbish.

The beer was a heavily hoppped winter pale ale from an award winning local brewery in Sheffield. I've spoken to the brewer and the beer is exactly as it was meant to be. He's tried the cask I had on and congratulated me on keeping a fine pint. As was explained to you when you asked for it, it is an aquired taste which is why anyone is able to, and encouraged to, try a taster of any beers we have on. Perhaps John Smith's Smooth might suit you better
