“Friendly, welcoming and comfortable B&B”
Reviewed 11 October 2010

Our Friday arrival for a weekend of walking kicked off well with a very friendly greeting from Alan, some lovely cookie style biscuits in the rooms and recommendations for evening meal locations (we went to The Castle first eve which served food until 10pm - good meal, friendly environment and wide selection of drinks). As has been said previously, I'm not sure how long ago the refurbishment was but yes, some areas do need a lick of paint but I did find everything spacious (KS with private shower), clean and nothing scarey under the bed! The bed was extremely comfortable and the feather duvet a luxury for me :) Having left some bits behind on our departure day, Alan very kindly posted them on too. A host who does everything in his power to make your stay comfortable and welcoming; a great location for walking; easy access to all pubs & restaurants in Castleton is how I'd sum up.

I don't think we were staying at the same place as all the other reviews. In fact looking at the room we had on the website on our return we don't recognise the room and definitely not the ensuite which is a bit odd!! It states on the website that it has been completely refurbished which is sadly not the case as far as we could see.
The stay and the hosts were pleasant and friendly enough but we found the place scruffy and grubby-unlike the photos on the website and we don't think our room was properly cleaned or hoovered and certainly not the public areas/stairs all the time we were there-4 nights.
The cooked breakfasts were good and the rest adequate and it was well located for walks, pubs etc.
We arrived about 2pm which was pre-arranged and our host had to ask our names! There was no welcome as at other B&B's re info/tips about the area/town and facilities at the B&B etc. and we were just given the key and left to get on with it. We felt all the time a lack of care.
As a basic walker's establishment it is fine. We were quite disappointed.

Stayed one night only. Generally quite a nice B&B. Clean and reasonably comfortable. Dog friendly. We had a good size room for us and the dog, inlcuding large bathroom. Nice warm pastry on arrival was appreciated. Good local pubs for food. The B&B is a bit tired in places but owner was very friendly. The best cooked breakfast we had that week.

We only booked into The Four Season for one night prior to a flight back home from Manchester the next day. This B&B represented the best of all the B&B's we have stayed. It was a great location with parking on street. Alan greeted us and throughout the stay he was wonderful and a fabulous host. I have to say I was impressed with the house itself as it was nicely appointed. Our room was at he back and looked out onto the hills with sheep. The room itself was wonderfully spacious with excellent cupboards and the most comfortable king sized bed. Breakfast was delicious, and finally somebody who knows how to properly cook bacon!. Unfortunately, we do not live in the UK, so our visits are sporadic, but when we next go to the Peak District we will definately stay here again!

Went for the weekend, situated opposite the cheddar cheese inn, so was handy if you like a tipple of the real stuff before bed. although there are numerous pubs all serving fine ales & good food.
was ideal for our weekend, room was clean & seemed recently decorated. floorboards creeked somewhat tho breakfast was excellent. great hosts & friendly.
Castleton is a perfect base to see the beauty of the peaks & caverns. Will return

This place could not be more welcoming, I stayed there with family and pet dog. The owners are dog friendly and their dog was clearly part of the family. Rooms were very clean, well presented and attractive. Great nights sleep and very good breakfast,

Great comfy beds, gorgeous breakfast, great location near pubs etc, b&b couldn't do enough and home made biscuits were placed every day on the tea tray. Alan was very helpful and friendly. The room was bright and very modern, as well as feeling homely. The b&b style was young and fresh and welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay and would wholeheartedly recommend.
