“Great location, great breakfast, great hosts.”
Reviewed 4 April 2012

Just returned from a walking weekend stay with friends. First time we have stayed and would definately return. The location is ideal, everything in Castleton is within easy walking distance and it proved a great base for some good walking. The bedrooms, we were in rooms 8 and 9, were well appointed and very clean with lots of tea and coffee makings. Lashings of hot water and a great shower. The walking needed to be strenuous to walk off the great breakfast, plenty of choice and good portions. We also had Mary and Martha provide us with pack ups for the walks, excellent value and plenty of food. A little too much food as we were still stuffed from breakfast! Thanks Mary and Martha, we will return!

We have stayed many times over several years, in almost all of the rooms, and have never been disappointed. Mary and Martha are always welcoming and are a mine of information on places to visit, local shops and dining out. The rooms and bathrooms are warm and very clean and the beds comfortable.

We look forward to the by now customary cup of tea and slice of home-made flapjack on our arrival. Breakfast is worth writing home about: seven kinds of cereal, including home-made granola; a good choice of fruits; yogurts and fruit juices; the full English cooked breakfast (or variations on it, such as scrambled eggs and excellent kippers); unlimited toast with a wide selection of jams and wonderful home-made marmalade.

We wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

Stayed for three nice. Very welcoming and good breakfast. Spotless rooms and ideally located for walking. Parking can be awkward when busy.

We've just returned from a 2 night stay, finding the b & b very warm and comfortable. The bedroom (number 8) was a fair size with a kingsize bed. There was all the usual amenities which you would expect such as hair dryer, tea and coffee etc. It was nice that there was plenty of milk so we could make several drinks. The bathroom was a good size and spotless having a larger than average shower which was hot and powerful. At breakfast there was a good choice, we both had the granola based on what people had said on here about it and it didn't disappoint. The breakfasts were cooked to order so nice and hot when it arrived at the table. There was several different homemade jams, marmalade, lemon curd, marmite etc to have with toast which you toasted yourself when you were ready for it.
All in all we found Swiss House a very accommodating and friendly place to stay and would happily stay again.

Made a last minute decision to go to Castleton for a walk this weekend and booked into Swiss Cottage as it had looked nice last time we were in the area - we were not dissappointed! The welcome was warm, tea and homemade flapjack by the fire, our room was spacious and clean, the recommendation for eating out spot on (Bull's Head - good food next to a real fire :) ) and the breakfast was plentiful and tasty setting us up for a blustery walk. Hoping to return.

Room Tip: Slept at the front with window open, not disturbed by traffic at all.

Brilliant B and B.Ideal base for a walking break. Mary and Martha were very welcoming, the place is warm, modern and clean. Breakfast was freshly cooked and all you could wish for. We had the family room which was very roomy for the 4 of us(2 adults and 2 children.) Swiss House is very geared up for walkers- muddy boot rack and drying room and real fire in the snug.We will definitely be back.Thanks.

Stayed here for about the 5th time. Once again everything was excellent as it always has been. Superb breakfast - everyone should try Mary's Granola, it's delicious! Our room was enormous & very comfortable. Keep up the good work - we would recommend Swiss House to anyone.
