“A stay with Mr Mole and friends”
Reviewed 1 October 2007

Stayed for one night at this hotel in a superior room which was comfortable, though dated and ready for a refurbishment. Breakfast was of good quality and even the toast was served hot! Evening meal is available at a cost of £29 per person which, again was very enjoyable. My only complaint is that £145 for one night bed and breakfast is rather steep.

I found reviews of this hotel on late rooms website, I also looked at the hotel website and thought it looked and sounded perfect for a romantic, relaxing weekend with my gilrfriend.

The only good thing I can say about the place is that it was clean and the rooms were a good size.

The photos of the hotel are taken from an angle that does not show the road, the builders yard, the golf club... just go to google maps and zoom in, you will see what I mean about the location! That said it is quiet but not secluded.

Why would you replace a period victorian house with horrible white uvpc windows?

The hotel has a misconception that it is a luxury high quaility accomadation. It is not - poor attention to detail - no glasses for water in room, no mini bar, no satalight tv, no biscuits, no nice toiletries in the bathroom, fake marble plastic wallpaper stuff in a rather small bahthroom. The bed that we slept (or rather tried to sleep in) was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever stayed in anywere - the matress needed replacing many years ago - it was lumpy with no sping left in it. The bed was a divan type bed pushed up to a wooden headboard nailed to the wall which ment that the bed moved away fro the wall and headboard. This let the pillow fall down the gap during the night.

Breakfast did not set us for a days walking in the peaks -one small sausage , 1 piece of bacon, 2 mushrooms, 1 egg and a piece of black pudding the size of a 10p. We did not stay for dinner as when we recieved our frosty greeting on arrival we were asked to look at the previous nights menu as they had not got the menu ready for the day we were staying at (we arrived at 2pm). At £29 a head I think I would like to see what I would be committing myself for - not an unreasonable request. Even so I dont think I would have wanted to sit in the dull unatmospheric wierdly quiet dinning room.

I am amazed at other reviews of this place I think I must have stayed at a different Wind in the Willows - I think foriegn visitors may be conned into thinking they are staying in somehting very british and peroid but I think at £125-165 a night it is way over priced. AVOID THIS CHEAP REPRODUCTION RIP OFF and find a real luxury house in the country.

AA Inspectors report 2007.
The developement and re investment of capital continues and the guest experience is constantly being moved forward. The hotel comfortable meets its market expectations. An AA score of 80% is justly deserved.

We always respect guest comments, which from time to time, vary with great surprise.

Simply perfect if you need to relax.
The perfect bed, like an embrace! beautiful and cosy room, clean and welcoming. Incredibly quite, silence at any time, day and night. And the food was simply amazing! A fantastic dinner, filling and very well served and prepared. The best breakfast ever, cooked to order, not the usual over cooked buffet. Staff very nice and polite, they really make you feel at home.
Breathtaking location, hills and rivers, trees and sheep. You just need to walk out the door and you find yourself in open country.
I loved it, I'll be back soon!

Booked this hotel to get away with a group of friends (9) to be in the middle nowhere with good service and that is exactly what we got.

A very laid back feel to the place and you were able to relax and take it easy. The food was good although as expected it was freshly made and you will need to wait relaxing over a cup of tea etc.

The character rooms were quaint with four poster beds etc everything was clean and if we needed anything it was brought to us straightaway.

Good value for money. Not a modern hotel in the slightest.

The previous review is quite right-there are no frills here- no nice toiletries, no biscuits, not even water glasses-that really is poor! -and it could do with a bit of an update-the plastic fake marble in the bathroom and the cheap plyboard doors are a slight downer.......But there is some nice antique furniture and it is quite an atmospheric, homely, comfortable place. It 's very quiet-(you can't see or hear the builder's merchant)- there are very nice views of trees and hills, and only a faint traffic hum. It is very clean, service is good, breakfast very good- so on the whole I'd stay again. Are there any better options nearby?

Stayed here this week whilst on business in the area. We stumbled across this hotel by chance using a search on google for hotels in Glossop. This small family run hotel is in the highly regarded 'conde nast Johansens hotel directory'.

The hotel is situated up a quiet country lane on the way out of Glossop at the foot of the 'Snake Pass'. Has a nice little 9hole golf course next door. Good pubs/grub within walking. nice location in the picturesque peak district.

The hotel is a hiden gem, somewhere a bit differrent from the im-personal large chain run hotels, a place with charm and charachter, with lots of homely charms. The "house" is of a Victorian Country House style, with lots of original features as you would expect to find in such an establishment of this era. The rooms are "themed" or rather named after charachters in the book of the same name. Rooms of good size, comformable bed, shwr room/wc fastidiously clean and well kept througout. No SAT TV (slight minus point for me) Food: we only ate here for breakfast and this was cooked to order and effeciently served by attentive and friendly staff. The dinner menu looked very good indeed and value for money. Nice study/drawing room with homely bar. Its a very nice quiet place, which i would return to and stay at without a doubt when next in the area.
