Went there for dinner based on recommendations here. Would have been better in the pub down the road.
The food was pretentious without any quality. We had the fish that was swimming in an un-identified and tasteless green soup, and the rabbit, which was dry, and did not even look like rabbit meat.
The grand finale was the "cheesecake", which was made of a roll of pink mouse, foam and some crumbs. Not a cake, and not even cheese.
Will not be coming back

We had 4 lovely nights at this hotel. All of the staff were very attentive, especially Martin, for whom nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay again if visiting the area.

We visited the George on a Saturday evening whilst staying in Hathersage celebrating our anniversary. It was perfect for a special occasion. Wish we lived closer!
The staff were all friendly, attentive and professional, the restaurant and lounge area were welcoming and it had all the little details you'd expect from an excellent restaurant. We had two courses as we'd had afternoon tea in Bakewell(!) but wish we'd gone for 3 courses just to eat more of the delicious food. Thoroughly recommend the scallops and duck for main.

Just be aware if you're ravenous after a day of walking - portions aren't huge.

We went to the George to spoil ourselves, and we where not disappointed at all. The staff and the food where both amazing. My husband is dairy intolerant, and we where sent the menu before attending and there was so much choice, I even decided to eat of the same menu as it sounded amazing, and it was just so delicious.

Had the set lunch here last week. Very limited choice but really nicely served in the lovely restaurant (not keen on eating full meals at coffee tables in the lounge so we opted for the dining room) Food was OK but a but I was disappointed with the fish and chips - meagre portion too. The pudding was nice though and the whole experience was very pleasant. I thought it was overpriced,
