This was our second stay at the Millstone Inn and it didn't disappoint. Everyone at the Millstone is always welcoming and friendly, the food is fresh and hearty, they serve a variety of well kept real ales, the rooms are spotlessly clean and the location is superb - what more could you ask for?

Thanks to Jerry and all the staff (special mention to Linda who is a real gem) for making our three night stay a very enjoyable one, no doubt we will be back!

Room Tip: Due to the age of the building some of the rooms have slightly sloping floors (Little John for examp...

Excellent location in the heart of the Peak District with several walks starting right at the front door! Friendly staff, good beer and above all - DOG FRIENDLY! You have to love dogs to come here, everyone brings their pooch to dinner! The only place our furry friends can't wander is in to the kitchen - everywhere else is in bounds!!

Packed lunches were great for our walking days out (extra cost but worth it) and the rooms are comfortable and quiet. Very reasonably priced considering most other places charge at least £10 per dog per night which adds considerably to any holiday finance when you have 2 dogs (never worked out why you have to pay twice for two dogs - the room gets cleaned once regardless...!)

Only real criticism is that the decor is stuck in the 1970's and there's definately a 'retirement home' feel to the furniture but like I said - comfortable and friendly :)

Already booked to go back....

We stayed for a couple of nights during August. Our room was clean, though compact and the bathroom was nicely up to date. I wasn't too thrilled to see a power shower but in fact it was very good. The hotel toiletries, however, were something of a let down.
We ate our evening meal on both evenings and enjoyed it. There were plenty of options and I agree with some of the other reviews that the portions were very generous!
GOOD POINTS:
- views
- spacious car park
- good food, especially breakfast
- friendly staff
- altogether good value for money
SO-SO
- single glazed window meant traffic noise

We stayed in this hotel last weekend, that was fantastic time for us. The hotel is well situated on a hill where you can enjoy the view on The Peak District with a close distance to the centre of Hathersage with plenty of small shops. In a short distance from hotel you can reach the National Trial (Stanage Edge with its beautiful High Neb peak), Ladybower Reservoir on the Derwent river with its famous historic dams - Derwent and Howden Dams (THE DAMBUSTERS 1954 movie) and plenty of others recreational paths where you can spend hours walking around.
The Millstone's staff was incredibly friendly, approachable, helpful and constantly smiled. The food - plenty to choose from, always fresh prepared and hot. PLEASURE to eat.
Overall we were very pleased and happy staying in Millstone Inn and we would really recommend this hotel for others.
Thanks

Lots of good things to say about this place. The staff are all incredibly friendly from the moment you arrive, it's got a good old fashioned feel about it, there's a good menu selection (promptly served up), the rooms are clean and comfortable, it has great views over the valley and ample car parking.

If you're exploring the peak district then I'd recommend using The Millstone as a base, it benefits from being slightly out of the busier small towns nearby which makes it feel very relaxed- some places can get hectic in season. At the end of your day, choose from on of the five real ales on offer, take a seat on the terrace and enjoy the scenery.

What a lovely friendly inn! All the staff were exceptionally helpful, (even immediately posting my forgotten watch to me). The food was lovely with great choices, meaning that "good pub food" and a much more "dining" menu could be enjoyed at the same table, allowing a terrific choice. The views are lovely and the rooms very comfortable.
We felt very welcome here and would love to go back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the road were noisy with the window open, (it was very warm weather when we were there), bu...
