“stunning views from Stanage edge”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

Me and my partner walked along the Stanage Edge, absolutely fantastic views and great fun watching the climbers, take a picnic and find a nice place to sit and admire the views, it can be a bit windy, so pick your day.

“Stunning Stanage Edge!”
Reviewed 24 October 2013 via mobile

This is a rugged outcrop of millstone grit, overlooking Hathersage and beyond. There are over 444 climbs on this edge, giving novice to experienced rock climbs. This is a dangerous climbing area and great care must be taken by wearing the correct gear and going out with an experienced climber. The views from the top are breathtaking and you can see right over to Mam Tor to the south west. If you walk to the centre of the edge you will see a pole. This is called Stanage Pole and the adjacent path takes you down to Redmires Reservoirs. From there you can see all the power stations in North Yorkshire. Ferrybridge, Drax and Eggborough. They must be a distance of around 16 miles away. Looking East from Stanage Edge, you can see Carl Wark and Burbage Edge. It is very remote. Even in summer it can be quite cool. Be sure to take extra clothing to visit and enjoy this region. We will always visit this place. It is very much a part of us.

“Unsurpassed fun”
Reviewed 17 September 2013 via mobile

A brisk walk along Stanage Edge and a little bit os scrambling (we are climbers so get a guide if you want to try this) gets you ready for a slap up tea at Hathersage. Fantastic views across the valley to Hope and Kinder Scout!
