“There are better places near by”

We visited The David Mellor shop and restaurant twice between Christmas and New year. It is indeed a very nice cook shop, selling high end kitchenailia.
We decided to return a couple of days later to purchase some sale items, and took breakfast in the restaurant.

Nice that a coffee shop seats you and comes to take your order, but the staff were not friendly, lacking in smiles and everything seemed just a little too much trouble. We ordered bacon sandwiches, and asked if we could have an egg inside too.
After a " I don't think so"... and a huff and a puff...and our request to ask the kitchen if possible...the answer came back as a yes.
The bacon sandwiched were indeed delicious, with high quality bacon and nice fresh sliced bread ( although very very expensive at almost £6)... but the coffee was not good, and only semi skimmed milk on offer, which is always a let down.
The childs bacon sandwich was exactly the same size and half the price.
We asked for the bill which was approx £22 and sent my 11 year old to the till with £30 in cash to pay. She returned with a few coins change.....and on my trip to the till to complain about the change...the £5 note was produced far too quickly without argument for my liking, and we were all under the impression they had purposely short changed my child. Large accusation to make, but all attitudes at the till from the staff pointed to this.
The shop staff were no more friendly....one receives a nice card with receipt clipped inside, but the lack of friendly smiles and customer care is not great for such a high end shop.
We will not be returning again. There are a few very nice friendly coffee shops/cafes in Hathersage that produce equally good bacon sandwiches and delicious coffee to use instead.

Worth a visit if passing - although the cost of products there was a little out of my price range. I fancied buying a new cutlery set, but could not justify the high price....I'd be afraid of using them in case I broke something! Interesting to see how they make it though in the factory.

“Very lovely food”

Great food and very tempting kitchen supplies - glass, china, cutlery etc. Be very careful - you need to take a credit card and use it very carefully!

The cutlery history was very interesting.
Purchased lovely glass bowls that survived a long flight home.
