“An outstanding treat”
Reviewed 1 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Sladen Lodge is pure delight from the moment you step through the door. The decor is so attractive; everything that you can think of - and then some! - is provided. There is lots of space, but that the same time it is all so comfortable. Everything is in first class condition, and spotless of course. There was nothing that we lacked, nothing that we could think of that could have made it more perfect.

I can't wait for an excuse to go back and take my family.

“Seven Days that flew by!”
Reviewed 23 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We were seven couples sharing Sladen Lodge and were impressed how cosy and comfortable it was, how well equipped the kitchen is and how thoughtful and helpful the staff/owner are.
From the terrace that catches the sun almost all day you get a marvellous view.
I suppose the only slightly negative aspect is that the train runs along the border of the property and some of my friends were woken up by it in the early morning.

“Perfect Base for the Peak District”
Reviewed 6 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Wonderful, large house placed excellently for experiencing the Peak District. I rented this property for my extended family consisting of 7 adults and six children. Seven bedrooms all with their own bathroom meant that no-one was ever in each other's way. Wonderfully clean throughout and with all the facilities that you could need in the kitchen including enormous ovens, two dishwashers and large fridge and freezer. Enough cutlery and equipment to entertain an army!

Beautifully secluded location close to railway line but I love hearing a train rumpling along occasionally.

The village itself has everything you need. Two Indian restaurants both serving lovely food and a great pub about 5/10 minutes walk away (Scotsmans Pack)

The only thing that would have improved my stay - a bit of sunshine!

“Ideal accommodation for 7 couples”

Sladen Lodge proved to be the perfect venue for our birthday / wedding anniversary celebrations. The 7 en suite bedrooms ensured all 7 couples had accommodation of the same (high) standard. The large sitting room was just right for both pre- and post-dinner drinks.
The kitchen had everything our party needed, and the utility room, with its fridges, acted as a superb wine cellar / bar. We arranged for an outside caterer to provide us with a meal one night: that too was excellent. We cannot praise our accommodation highly enough and would recommend it to any group of a similar size. As an added bonus, there is the excellent Sickleholme Golf Club 3 minutes' drive away.

“Spacious, clean and comfortable”
Reviewed 24 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Sladen Lodge was an ideal base for our family gathering. Booking was easy and my queries were answered promptly. The property is very comfortable and is furnished to a very high standard. The rooms are all large and it was lovely to be able to eat around a table big enough for us all. The views from the front of the property are beautiful. The only negatives were the proximity of the house from the railway line and the road. We noticed this particularly on the first night then just got used to it. It is an easy stroll into Hathersage where there is a baker, supermarket and green grocer. The outdoor pool is also a short walk away and well worth a visit.

“Arrived with high expectations of Sladen Lodge and it did not disappoint - highly recommended.”
Reviewed 28 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We chose Sladen for a family get together, attracted by the location and the fact that it offered accommodation where we could all dine and relax together, either inside or, weather permitting, outside. From the information and photographs on the website we had very high expectations of the property and it did not disappoint in any way. It is very well furnished and equipped and all the bedrooms are lovely. The views from the front of the property are stunning. Owners very helpful and lots of useful information on the website. Excellent walking (eg up onto Stanage Egde) from the front door - no need to move the car! There is a railway line very close by but this did not cause us any disturbance. Hathersage itself offers a number of pubs, shops etc but the main road is quite busy.

“An absolute gem!”
Reviewed 15 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Well, what can I say - a fantastic stay in a beautiful property in even more beautiful surroundings.
Staying at the lodge as a group of friends, along with our young daughter, we wanted the quality of a hotel with the convenience of self catering and my, did we get that. The lodge itself is immaculately presented with all of the facilities that you would need, including not one, but two dishwashers (great for those big group dinners), a washer and drier, double oven and enough glasses for whatever drink might take your fancy! Team that with bed linen and towels of excellent quality and comfortable beds and furnishings, and you have a perfect home from home.
What's more, the lodge is in the perfect location for exploring the peak district and all that it has to offer. We spent our days wandering the village, which has all of the amenities that you need, taking long walks in the amazing surrounding areas and stopping in to pubs here and there for the much needed refreshments! If you fancy going further afield Chatsworth House and Bakewell are brilliant day trips and only around 25 minutes drive from the lodge.
What's more, the owner of the lodge was close by and very friendly (but was in no way intrusive) and gave us some good dining advice and suggestions for walks in the surrounding area.
The only minor downside for some might be that the lodge looks out across the railway line but we didn't find this an issue at all and wouldn't want anyone to be put off by it. It wasn't noisy and our daughter in particular loved watching and waving as the trains tootled past with the occasional hoot of their horn. Also, they didn't seem to run at night and the lodge was so peaceful in the evenings, meaning a great night's sleep was had by all.
Overall, a fantastic break away in a lovely location in very high quality accommodation. I think it may turn in to an annual visit!
