We have just stayed here and what a lovely place.

The staff are all friendly and couldn't of done more for us. Check in was easy and the views are amazing!

I do have a few niggles, the room we stayed in was quite dated and could do with refreshing, like new bath/window sealant as it was black with mould, as was the bottom of the shower screen, not spotted, black! The room could also benefit from a lick of paint. The housekeeping staff could do with using the hoover attachments to get around the edges of the bed as there was quite a build up of dust that was clearly visable.

That said the rest of the room was tidy, it's just a bit of attention to detail as at over £100 per night you don't really expect this.

The breakfast again was very nice, was odd to have to choose either continental or cooked, normally when we've stayed in b&b's/hotel's you can have cereal, pastries and cooked if you so wish.

That said we would stay here again, but would look at requesting one of the themed rooms rather than a standard one, as I have said the staff were all very friendly and it has a lovely atmosphere!

This is an historic property with very nice staff and a wonderful view. The rooms are quite varied but all of the rooms I've stayed in have a very comfortable bed. They do have some rooms with air conditioning so remember to request it if you need it. I believe it is extra, but well worth it if you need the cool in the summer. Not that you would stay in a hotel like this to watch TV, but they have a good selection of satellite channels and it is of good quality. This seems to be a recent improvement. The breakfast is good, so don't miss it. Be sure to walk around the grounds and enjoy the architecture, the scenery, in essence, the ambience. In addition to the pleasant staff, you are likely to encounter the personable Managing Director, Santos, who takes a great deal of pride in the facility and it shows.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the valley have a beautiful view.

This review is only about my main meal, although there was a wedding on at the same time which did cause a few problems, that is not the main issue. I fail to see why you feel you have to apologise to the chef if you want a well done steak no blood, is it because they have to work hard to cook a well done steak, were as a blue steak takes seconds, and why I was told it would be an extra half hour if I wanted it well done is beyond me, when the steak arrived it was black & dry, the chef had paid no attention to the steak during its cooking process, you could say why did I not complain at the time, 1/ it's embarrassing, 2/ they then take your meal away so you sit there without a meal whilst the others eat, then when yours comes back everyone else has finished, 3/ and because you complain the hotel think you don't want to pay.As I said this review is about the main meal I received and not the hotel it's amenities or staff.

I realise a lot of time has passed since your visit but your review is definitely worthy of a response.
You are 100% correct. Customers should be able to order their steak cooked to their liking and every care should be taken to ensure the steak arrives at the table exactly as ordered, in a timely manner. You have my sincere apologies that this was not the case.
I would like to advise you that in July 2013 a new Head Chef stepped into the role. He is highly experienced, well travelled and takes tremedous pride in his work. Nothing is too much trouble, he has introduced new cooking methods, raised standards and most of all listens to what the customers want.
I do hope you choose to revisit and I look forward to reading your follow up review.

stayed just for 1 night on business
super receptionist vannessa checked me in very good rate
rooms vary in sixe but mine was ok double bed large plasma screen multi channell tv nice bathroom bidet shower cubicle
with instant hot shower plenty of hanging space in a deceptive large wardrobe
internet access free and instant (BIG BONUS)
food in bar very good but menu needs to be a bit more varied and a smile from the bar staff would be a help although service was most efficiant
good breakfast served to you makes a welcome change from buffet style all well presented and hot
in conclusion a very good independant hotel which deserves to be patronised (i will definatly come back) but just needs to watch some small niggles kettle flex did not reach the plug had to boil on the floor not a problem for me but some people would have a moan about
and finnaly mr santo get your bar staff to cheer up

A great family run hotel with all the usual conference facilities you would expect, plus exceptionally good customer service. Nice accomodation (28 rooms), great food and reasonably priced. Great central location - just off the M1 but with great views over the countryside.

Stayed for 2 nights (on business in the area). It was fine, I prefer a place like this compared to say Premier Inn or Holiday Inn Express. Great staff, quirky but very comfortable and clean room. Would definetly stay here again.
