“Empty restaraunt, can see why!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 December 2013

This was once the best Indian in the area. How things Have changed. Went on a Sunday for the buffet. Place was almost empty and the food on the buffet had Been left to go way past its best. Freshly cooked nann bread was good and served to order, but rest of the 6 or so buffet dishes were of Poor quality and has been left out too long. Will not be going back!!!

“Worst indian meal iv ever had….”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2013

Myself and a number of my colleagues had our xmas meal here, iv been to a number of Indian restaurant in Derby, but this has got to be the worst.

To keep it brief its more like a country pub than a Indian restaurant just a few indian pictures scattered around the walls for authenticity. The loo's were, diabolical and needed a good clean, the beers was expensive at £3.50 something a pint, the food was of very poor quality i.e iv had better ready meal from Asda.

All in all I would never recommend restaurant, I could go on and on but dont see the point..

“Best Ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 December 2013

We have been frequenting the Melbourne Arms for many years now, and have seen the restaurant go through it's ups and downs over that time.

Yes the decor is dated, but I don't go to admire the wallpaper, it's always clean and tidy!

The staff are always polite and friendly, and go out of their way to guide you through your choice of dish, Sanjay and the lads do an great job.

We went last night, and had our usual, and hand on heart it was the best meal we have ever had there, the flavours were amazing, wonderful fresh ingredients, and can't wait to return. A huge pat on the back to the chef!

Keep up the good work.

Tip - try the chefs specialities served on sizzling platters, delicious, beats a straight forward curry every time!

“Great service and delicious curry”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

We had a very warm welcome from Mr Kumar and his staff. It's was our first visit and we were staying in the hotel upstairs. The bar man had such a lovely turn of phrase making the atmosphere very relaxed and peaceful. The manager was very entertaining. It was the best curry I have had in a long time. Thank you

“A bit better than decent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 October 2013

Agreeable, relaxed Indian restaurant that’s open all afternoon. Not worth traveling for—given the high-end Indian restaurants of nearby Derby—but definitely worth trying if one is in the village (or in neighbouring Ticknall for Calke Abbey).

I didn't have any of the dark impressions--or problems with the food--of the previous reviewer, although I did think the drinks were quite expensive (most expensive Diet Coke I have ever consumed! it must have been a rare and fine vintage).
