“An excellent relaxing family stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2012

We had an excellent relaxing stay in Sycamore Lodge over half term. The lodges were reasonably secluded and also had an excellent space on which our boys could play football. The forestry area was low key, but gave us a few days of 'bobbing around' fun. The boys enjoyed cycling about, the adventure playground, the mini assault course and the table tennis. We has excellent day trips to Snibston, Drayton Manor and Conkers. In response to the entry descibing the lodge as 'dirty': This was not our experience at all. We found that the lodge was well equiped, clean and tidy.

We booked the Cedar lodge for three nights hoping it would be suitable for a family get together. We weren't disapointed. Our party was four adults and two young children and the size of the lodge meant that we were never under each other's feet. Location wise we were tucked away from the main park and all of the lodges are seperated by trees, making them very private so we weren't worried about disturbing others.
Our lodge had a large kitchen diner, three bedrooms and two bathrooms (plus a second seperate toilet). The level of provision was very high with everything from a wheelchair for the shower to a childrens play pen. The kitchen had everything we could have needed and all the little things like dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and washing powder were provided too.
All in all we were impressed with the standard, and there were a lot of extras that are usually missing from a self catering cottage.
The park is great, and perfect for small children to explore, it would definitely be a great place for a week in the summer.

We stayed in Sycamore Lodge at Easter it is the worst lodge we have ever stayed in there was mould on the windows that must of been there for months. The other windows where all dirty. The wet room was disgusting all the hand rails where rusty and the wet room flooded when you had a shower making it slippy and dangerous. The blinds in the bedroom would not open and they smelt of damp. We also had no power twice during our stay.

We went here after our parents happened to spot whilst out walking. They described it as log cabins in the middle of a forest. We were looking for an alternate to Centreparcs, so thought: Why not?

We're were not disappointed!

We stayed in the "Rowan" lodge. It was situated just off a forestry track in a kind of woodland glade. The lodge itself is quite large, and has a lawned area large enough to play six-a-side football. There's a good thickness of trees on all sides, with the nearest neighbour barely visible on one side. (Tip: The Rowan lodge is the last lodge on the track, so is arguably one of the most private.) The lodge has a decked verandah at the back with a BBQ and lighting.

Internally the lodge is built for guests in wheelchairs, which means that there is plenty of space to spread out in. There's a lounge/kitchen area, shower room, separate toilet, hallway and two bedrooms. There's also a utility cupboard that contains the hot water cylinder and a washing machine.
The lounge are contains a sofa, coffee table and chair. The furniture isn't all that comfy, but it was fine for what I needed. There's also a dining table and 4 chairs for more formal eating. There's also a modest flat screen TV.
The kitchen contains a range of cupboards and is actually reasonably well equipped, even for self catering accommodation. There's a hob, oven, dishwasher, microwave, and kettle. The hob was at a height suitable for a wheelchair user, which means it's slightly lower than a conventional kitchen surface, but this wasn't a problem.
The shower room is essentially a wet room with large sprinkler in the roof. Our kids loved this idea, and would have spent hours in there had we let them! There's no bath, which was a shame.
The bedrooms are very spacious. Neither had en-suite, but we visited as a family unit, so this didn't pose a problem for us. The main bedroom has a super-kingsize bed with a very firm mattress. The second bedroom has two singles. There's no TV in either bedroom.

The lodge has underfloor heating which we found to be plenty warm enough, even when it showed (in April!). It actually means that I could walk around barefoot without getting cold feet; luxury!

The site, Rosliston Forestry Centre was great. It has a visitor centre with a variety of paid-for and free activities. The children's playground was great, and kept our kids amused for days. Of course, there's also the forest to wander around too :-) It was nice to live on site, as we could go out in the evening and essentially have the place to ourselves.

I'd heartily recommend this lodge. It's perfect for a family, and looks ideal for those with a disability too.
