What a lovely cottage, perfectly situated in the pretty village of Litton. Right across the green from the Red Lion pub and a stones throw from a well stocked community shop. The cottage is well-equipped and beautifully furnished with quality linens and a fabulous rain shower, but sadly there is no bath. The area is quite beautiful with dozens of walks of all levels of difficulty with plenty of tea rooms and pubs at the end to revive you. Definitely worth a return visit or two!
We travelled to participate in a Beagle World Record walk (!!!) and needed somewhere to stay. We decided to make it a long weekend and I'm so glad we did. The cottage had all the amenities needed - and was well presented inside. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the rooms were spacious. The shower has fabulous with really good pressure and a lovely rainhead. On arrival we had kitkats which I was quick to scoff down - there was milk in the fridge which is always a nice touch. A couple of doors up is a little post office shop which has a few bits, but we stopped at a Spa in calver on our way in so had breakfast bits. This cottage does not allow dogs upstairs so if you have a pup who likes to sleep by your bed then you may have problems - but there is a door to stop them venturing up stairs. Luckily other than a few escape attempts we managed to keep him downstairs - but definitely worth mentioning as I'm sure I knew it was no dogs on the furniture but didn't know it was no dogs upstairs.
The patio was small but cute and sufficient for our needs.
If you book here I'd suggest you book into the Red lion across the road - the food was very good and dog very welcome. We ate there both nights on our stay. You can get to Tideswell within a couple of minutes drive which has more pubs etc.
We visited Calver which had a lovely walk next to river which we could let our dog offlead for. Be warned ! The water is fast moving so if you have a dog that likes to swim - put them on lead until you get to the calmer side! If we had had more time we would popped to pub - but we ended up just using and abusing their car park for our parking needs!
I'd also recommend visiting Eyam - although there's not a huge amount to see, it's been a place I've wanted to visit ever since I saw a play "roses of eyam" which was about the plague that pretty much wiped the village out in 1666 - we visited the Riley Graves which was very moving. There's a dog friend tearoom - the village green which looked good and had good reviews but again we ran out of time!
Overall a good choice for us - we were very comfortable and would visit again without hesitation!
Great place to stay, the cottage was brilliant and there is so much to do in the surrounding areas, I do recommend.
Loved this comfortable cottage for our family of 4 half term break. Particularly enjoyed the open fire in the evenings. It is set up to be very dog friendly.
Location is brilliant. In the centre of the village, on the green right opposite the Red Lion which is a real local village pub and does good food ( though note it doesn't allow under 6's). The community run shop is also very near and great for essentials. Lots of excellent walks from the cottage.
Cottage itself is very comfortable but not luxurious. Well equipped with lots of kitchen utensils and enough crockery to be able to fill the dishwasher and still have enough for a family of 4.
New carpets and well presented decor. Bedrooms were comfy but note main master room bed is 4'6 which my 6'1 husband found a bit small!
Bathroom was a bit tired but I think that's being re done this winter but plenty of hot water and plentiful good towels and nice bed linen.
Caroline the owner is really helpful and although we didn't meet her she was always at the end of an email and very responsive.
Recommend renting bikes and doing the Monsal trail.

We loved it there. The place is very nice and confortable. We were six so me and my husband had to sleep in the living room's sofa-bed and that wasn't very confortable for you can feel every single spring of the mattress. Other than that, everything was perfect. We'd definitely come again.
