“Fantastic time, highly recommend to all my friends”
Reviewed 25 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We had a super time at Fernlea. The house was really 'homely', the food that was left was a lovely touch. The location of Fernlea is excellent - we went to Castleton for the day. The locals were really nice and made us feel really welcome (gave us directions for a local walk). We shall definitely use this accommodation again when we next visit the Peaks.

“Lovely cottage”
Reviewed 27 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

I spent four nights at Fernlea with my partner and we both loved it! The owner left us a welcome pack with milk, bread, eggs and biscuits which we were very grateful for as we turned up quite late on the day of our arrival. The cottage is also a 3-minute walk away from the local supermarket which was very handy.

“Good location and well furnished”
Reviewed 20 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

The cottage is central but not on a high street. When I read that parking was on the market square I was worried that there might be traffic and competition for parking space. Historically this was the centre of the village but it is now a quieter section and in fact we were always able to park on the street outside the house. It is a few minutes walk to local pubs and shops. A visit to the local bakery is recommended. It sells excellent pies, pasties and local speciality cakes. The Tidza puddings are in my view better than Bakewell puddings and cheaper.
Good walks are available from the door. A walk along Tideswell Dale and on to Millers Dale is particularly recommended. We saw three water voles in the most tranquil part of the dale. It is an easy drive to Bakewell, Buxton or Edale from this central village.
The cottage is well equipped, particularly the kitchen which even includes a bread maker. (Although it is a good idea to close the kitchen door when making toast as this tends to set off the fire alarm). The lounge is comfortable and the addition of a DVD player and diverse selection of DVDs is a nice touch. There are a collection of trail magazines, one walking book and an OS map. The addition of more tourist information and some shorter walks would be helpful as the walks start at 9 miles, longer than most peoples requirements.
I would thoroughly recommend this cottage and Tideswell as a holiday location.

“Beautiful, cosy cottage in historic village with dramatic local scenery”
Reviewed 12 April 2014 for a stay in February 2014

The cottage has been restored beautifully and the furnishings were really comfy. The kitchen had all the appliances we needed. The cottage was really warm and cosy and the shower/bath had plenty of hot water. Tideswell is also a hidden gem with lots of history and fabulous architecture. We had excellent food at the cafe and chippy in Tideswell and the Anglers Rest at Millers Dale. Great walks at Monsal Dale, Tideswell Dale and Buxton and Bakewell within easy reach.

“The pictures don't do this place justice!!!”

The cottage is located in Tideswell, ideally placed to explore the Peak District towns of Buxton, Bakewell and Ashbourne. The village has a fantastic restaurant (The George), a handful of local shops and a top Fish and Chip shop. Easy railway walks are within striking distance of the cottage.

The cottage itself is ideal for either a short or a long break, and is surprisingly spacious, despite offering a very cosy feel. The log burner and original features make this cottage quintessentially English!

Kate, the owner, left some nice essentials out to give us a start (bread, milk, wood, matches etc) which was a nice touch. Have recommended this to friends since returning home!
