“Super Stay”
Reviewed 10 January 2014 for a stay in October 2013

The Old Barn is situated in Winster, one of the most interesting villages in which we have ever stayed. The buildings are full of character and its great for walking. The Old Barn is a lovely property. Very well equipped and furnished. It was comfortable, warm and clean. We took our two teenage youngsters and our dog.. The owner of the Old Barn lives next door to the property and was friendly, but not intrusive. The had a couple of meals at the Miners Standard and used it as our local. It was amazingly friendly and great with the dog. Although the weather was not great, it didn't spoil our holiday and while we were there we visited Chatsworth and Bakewell. We would thoroughly recommend the Old Barn. One final comment, how's this for customer care, beside having a welcome pack of food including excellent home made cake, the proprietor discovered, after we had left, that out teenage daughter had left some clothes behind. The proprietor packaged up the clothes posted them to us and refused our offer to pay the postage. I'd call that service over and above what could be expected. Super Stay.

“Cosy, Home from Home”
Reviewed 16 December 2013 for a stay in December 2013

Just returned from a 3 day birthday break to this beautiful property. The old barn is truly a lovely place to stay. Set within the grounds of the owners own home the old barn is truly a home from home. There is nothing the owners have not thought of, games for children, dvds, books you name it is it here. Upon arrival we were met with a freshly baked cake, wine and crisps, together with fresh flowers and a cosy fire. The beds are so comfy and no expense is spared with the decor and furniture, I can honestly say this property is better furnished than my own home. No need to bring towels, or washing up liquid here, its all provided, down to a hairdryer and iron if required. The weather was not great (it is winter, so should of expected it), but to be honest I was more than happy spending time in the property. Its so cosy...
The top bedroom is wonderful with an ensuite bathroom together with a jacuzzi bath. The owner was helpful, friendly but not at all obstrisive, I didnt feel at all uneasy about being within there own grounds.
Winster is a traditional Derbyshire village, there is a good pub in the village and a village shop that sold everything you need, however Matlock is only a 10 minute drive away for more shops and amenities. There are some lovely walks on your doorstep, just a shame it was so wet the weekend we went.
I can honestly say there was nothing the owners could do to make this a better stay... they have nailed it already.
Thank you for making my birthday weekend away a memorable experience, and we cannot wait to return when the weather is better.

“The Barn is an absolute delight - so clean, cosy and comfortable!”

Sharon has thought of everything - such a pleasure to live in this delightful accommodation. So many nice touches - the very friendly welcome, the home made cake, wine, crisps. Many thanks indeed!

“Our second home!”
Reviewed 14 June 2013 for a stay in June 2013

This was our second visit to The Old Barn and it felt like coming home when we arrived. We walked in to find a welcome tray full of goodies again, including the lemon cake we had been hoping for.

We had been looking forward to returning since our 2012 visit, and were so pleased we had rebooked here rather than looking for another cottage in the same location, we really don't think you could better the cottage for comfort, both beds and sofas are really comfy, which is something we've struggled to find n previous holiday rentals.

we would definitely be shocked to find a warmer welcome anywhere else, as Sharon is the perfect holiday home owner, friendly and welcoming but not at all intrusive. Within two days we had booked to come back next June, despite deciding to holiday in a different area next year. Peak district and The Old Barn are our new home from home for the near future.
