Owner description: With its headquarters in the fine old Peak District market town of Wirksworth, the Ecclesboume Valley line, at nine miles, is Derbyshire's longest heritage railway. The line runs through some of the most pleasant scenery in the White Peak, from its joint station with the main line at Duffield to its northern terminus at Ravenstor, close to the High Peak Trail and the National Stone Centre. The line provides services mainly operated by heritage diesel railcars, with four trains a day on summer weekends and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the high summer. The timetable is designed to connect with East Midlands Trains' services to and from Derby and Nottingham. Visitors may wish to take advantage of a 'zigzag choo choo' all Day Rover Ticket issued by the railway and Trent Barton providing an excellent opportunity for discount travel through the beautiful derbyshire countryside by bus and rail. Steam hauled services are also operated at peak periods, please call us to check what is running. If you would prefer to see the line from the Driver's cab or realise a childhood dream by taking the controls of one of our heritage steam or diesel locomotives then you can book that day to remember direct on our website. We offer a range of experiences to suit any occasion and budget.

I really enjoyed my day at the EVR. It was a really laid back day just travelling along quite slowly on the train taking in the scenery. Our ticket enabled us to take as many trips on the train as we liked! We were also able to sample the delights of the afternoon tea and what a delight it was! The food was plentiful and very tasty and the ladies who served us were friendly and very helpful and kind making the whole day delightful and definitely one to repeat.

Dear 'Anne S',

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review of our railway. Our volunteers work hard to ensure we deliver a good service in a friendly manner and its so nice for them to hear that their efforts are appreciated.

We are glad you enjoyed our Tuesday Afternoon Tea product in the Pullman Carriage. We will be launching our Station Master's VIP Luncheon in the Pullman First Class Carriage shortly on Amazon Local and it would be lovely if you could join us again in the not too distant future.

Returned to the EVR almost exactly a year since my first and only visit. My memory was of a well run and friendly railway - and it was not faulty! Grim day weatherwise but a fine one in terms of the welcome and friendliness of all concerned. They were running single car Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) - known affectionately as 'bubblecars'. Two of the ones in service used to run on my local line between Stourbridge Town and Stourbridge Junction, so it was very nostalgic. A great day out once again. The EVR manages that very difficuly balance between being very professional and very friendly and welcoming at the same time - other preserved lines take note!

Went to the 'Rocks & Rail' event today which involved the EVR, Steeple Grange Railway and walks around the quarries of Wirksworth. Really enjoyed it!! Very enjoyable trips on a number of different trains, the food & drinks in the EVR buffet excellent in quality and value.
One criticism - the gents toilet at Wirksworth station not very clean

Dear 'DMUafj',

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our railway. We are happy you had such a good time at our 'Rock and Rails' event. It was the first time we have run such an event and the feedback has been very positive so we hope to run something similar again.

We regret you did not find the gents toilet as clean as it should be and we will be looking into how this came about and what we can do to prevent a future occurrence. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. We hope you can visit us again in the not too distant future.

A trip back in time, the children loved it, together with the Crich Tramway Museum.
Free to look round, and very reasonably priced trips on steam train available, and right in the centre of this interesting little Georgian market town.

I had a diesel driving experience as a present and the day was perfect.

Driving a diesel multiple unit and then a Class 33 diesel loco, the instructor and other staff, most of whom are volunteers, were very friendly and helpful.

The route driven was picturesque and varied in terms of track features.

I was worried a large part of the day would be classroom based, but it was straight on the train and off we went.

My 3 fellow drivers were very nice people and we had a laugh.

If you fancy such as day out, this is the perfect place.
