“Enjoyable time in The Old Lockup”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

We stayed two nights with our daughter and granddaughter in the two Coach house rooms which were very relaxing. Tim was very welcoming and on arrival provided us with tea, coffee and home-made cakes, which were delicious, in the cosy lounge. The breakfast had a good choice to select from and was well cooked and very tasty. Wirksworth was very handy for Matlock and Buxton. We would stay here again if visiting the area.

Tim is a very nice host and makes your stay very personal. The old lock up is a genuine quirky old police station. The rooms are clean and cosy. The breakfast is fabulous, with home made bread and local products.
Local town is nice and quaint with attractions nearby including Gullivers world.

We stayed for three nights in the Magistrates room and had a wonderful visit. Tim, the Landlord, was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were lovely and we stayed in one night for an evening meal which was absolutely delicious. The B&B itself is charming and full of character and we felt very welcome and comfortable - would definitely stay there again.

Easy walking distance to the centre of Wirksworth with its fascinating selection of shops, tea rooms and restaurants. Very helpful owner, welcomed us with tea and cake in the lounge, much appreciated. Stayed in the Hayloft, spacious room with very compact ensuite bathroom. Had two very comfortable nights sleep! Varied breakfast menu, great to be able to order items in a full English breakfast as standard (breakfast choices are handed in at the bar each evening). Interesting historical features.

Room Tip: Narrow steep stairs to the Hayloft and Coachmans rooms might be a problem for some people, although...

Stayed for a couple of nights in the Solicitors Room. The whole place is full of character and has a homely feel to it. Great place to relax and also absorb some of the history associated with the building. Breakfast was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stop again if I was in the area.

Room Tip: The Magistrates Room is supposed to be the best, but we stayed in the Solicitors Room and had no com...

We stayed in the solicitors room which was through a gated prison door with a multitude of original features. Tim does a fabulous dinner and breakfast as well as being a really friendly host. The entire building is packed with history and makes for a lovely short break. I just wish we could have stayed another night

Thoroughly enjoyable, an overnight stop over after a week away walking. Quirky, comfortable with nice little touches such as delicious chocolates left on the pillow. Breakfast very good indeed. Would definitely stay again.
